Is a 60 box blade too big for a 26 hp tractor?

I've got a chance to buy a 60" box blade. My tractor is a Kubota B2620 (26 hp) with loaded ag tires. Is this implement too big?

I recently borrowed a 48" BB which worked great, but I can't continue to take advantage of my friend's generosity with an implement that I find so useful that I might never run out of jobs for it.

I have a 60 for my 2520 and it works great! You want it wider than the tractor.

I have a Massey GC2610 and a 72" box blade. So far I have about 3 hours experience with it and am still learning LOTS. I like the width for grading a driveway but only used 4 of the 6 rippers to loosen everything up. Now that I know how to better control my depth, I might try using all 6 the next time. I was originally looking for a 54 or 60", but none were to be had and I was offered this one for $150.00 less. I will cut it down if I find it's too big for other jobs.

we used to run a 72" on an 8n ford w/ no weight. 60" will be perfect for you

My tractor is 24 HP and pulls the blade just fine when I get the depth set properly. I went over the drive with the rippers first, and then used the blade for grading. I'm still new at this and until I clued in on how to adjust the height of my hitch, It dug in too much while trying to rip and grade at the same time. The next time I need to use it, I'll try again knowing how to lock the hitch and prevent the blade from slowly dropping while I work it. If there was a class of formal lessons on this nearby, I'd take the class. Learning by trial and error is way too slow. I no longer have the patients for it.

I have the 48" land pride box blade. Don't know how well it would pull a larger one, but the 48 covers the tracks, and should be able to get up next to something. use it all the time. The dealer says that is the "factory" BB for that tractor. I bought it from the dealer shortly after I bought the tractor. Basically asked him for the recommended BB, because I was needing to flatten out some dirt.
One thing I noticed is that weight is very important for getting them to dig. If I were to get a larger blade, and the weight didn't significantly increase ,it may not work right. If the BB were that heavy, it may be too heavy without counter weights on the front.

Before buying this CountyLine 60" BB, I had borrowed a friend's LandPride 48" BB. Some observations:

  • My rear tires are about 46" wide, so the 48" BB did just cover the width of my tires.
  • The LandPride BB1548 is built much more heavy and rugged than the CountyLine 60" BB. It is really built.
  • The paint on the CountyLine was already flaking off where it had been dinged at TSC.
  • The rippers on the LandPride extend significantly deeper than the CountyLine, so if you are going after rocks, you can hook and lift them more effectively with the longer rippers.

The CountyLine is less expensive, less well-designed, and less well-executed. That said, it will still do the job, though has trouble lifting big rocks because the rippers don't go deep enough to get leverage. Instead, they scrape over the top. Even with the top link adjusted short to put them deeper in the ground. The LandPride excelled at flipping rocks.

If I were to choose over again, I don't know. I don't really have any buyer's remorse. The two balance out pretty well, in my mind. I saved money and got a bigger BB. Except for pulling rocks (which is important to me) it performs well.
