Is a L2800 too big for a yard?

The L2800 that I am looking into doesn't have an FEL so that isn't a problem as far as added weight goes. I will be sure to keep it in 2wd, I'm glad you guys pointed that out because I planned up mowing in 4wd thinking the torque would be distributed more evenly and less chance of cutting up the yard.

I have a 5 acre yard and it is wide open with the exception of perimeter fencing, the house, a shed/garage, and a horse barn.

The L2800 I am looking into has AG tires so maybe I will look into a set of Industrial tires for it.

Thanks Guys!
Jeremy

When the non-mower work gets to the point that it requires a machine that's considerably bigger and heavier than what's requierd for mowing, you may want to start thinking of 2 machines: a ZTR or F series for mowing, and a used full sized utility tractor for FEL, backhoe, large volume brush hogging, and ground engagement work.

The Kubota is going to out-weigh a regular garden type tractor by over a thousand #'s. Don't know if you need a real nice lawn but after awhile, you could run into soil compaction problems as a result of the heavier tractor over time. This would be mitigated by regular aeration such as golf courses need to do as a result of the heavy equipment they use to cut grass. It all depends on your taste for lawn care. That and manuverability needs, along with fuel consumption, (which would also be lessened with a wider mower) and initial cost are the main concerns that pop up in my mind

I use my L3130 primarily as a lawn mower, with R4 tires. I prefer to mow in 4WD, as it doesn't spin on a hill like it will in 2WD. I've been using it to mow for 6 yrs now, no problems on my lawn.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. My brother has an L3400 and regularly uses it for mowing. I wanted something a little lighter, so I went with a B3200 with a MMM. His is better for ground engaging work and mine is better for mowing, but I can still do a fair amount of ground engaging, and he can still mow. It's all about the compromise to what will serve you best.
