Is a NH 1630 reliable?

I may look at a 1998 NH1630, 700 hrs w/belly mower for $9500...seems like a good price. However, is this a reliable tractor/model? I have read a couple of postings regarding the motor block cracking on this model and I was wondering if should stay away from this specific model of NH. Any input would be appreciated.

1630 became the TC 29 in late 1999 if I remember correctly.Slightly less HP

I've had a 1630 since 1999. I bought it with 208 hours on it, (it was a 1997). I've put over 500 hours on it and haven't had any problems with the block. Early on there was a problem with the injector pump, but after fixing that there has been no problems with the engine. I have had problems with the dash, in that the fuel gauge and temp guage aren't working. Tried to work on the connectors but to no avail. A new dash costs $460.00. So I'll just fill up after each use and keep the radiator screen clean. I use the tractor for mowing about 4 acres of a 10 acre property, and also moving trees and snow. I really can't complain about it's reliability. Paid 15k for tractor, mowing deck and FEL in 99. Good luck.

$$ sounds kinda high.. figure around 1000 $ for the belly mower.. meaning the tractor is 8500$.. I'd like to see it a hair lower than that.. probably not a ripoff though..

Thanks for the responses. I am going to take a look at it this weekend (weather permitting). I keep you posted on what I find.

I agree with Soundguy on the price. I've had midsize and utility Ford/New Hollands for the last 30 years and they have all been reliable.
