Is A YM1602D A Good Risk?

I think you will find that is factory power steering similiar to the 2002 and 1802. Here is a parts drawing of their set up.

Winston,
Would it be possible to post (or I can pm you my email address) a picture of the cylinder/cylinder mount from the parts manual for a 1802 or 2002?

Thanks,
Rob

If you are talking about power steering cylinder mounts there are none. These are equipped with power steering sector gear boxes. Like an automobile. The steering sector in the attached drawing is where the hydraulics go in and out. Do not have a sector gearbox breakdown. Am I on the same page with you?

We are on the same page, I'm using a valve on the draft link and cylinder similar to some of the 70's JD's and US made Yanmars. I just like to see what other units look.
I'm going to have to take a look at my 1602 parts manual to see if it has a similar steering sector, I wasn't looking for that, and my Japanese is not very good (so I can't do keyword searches....)

tallyho8, I've heard of the Vietnam tractors but I don't understand why parts would be any different if they are the same model 1602d? Is there anything else I should be looking for? The Bulldog FELs I've seen photos of were red with a black bucket but this tractor's FEL is all black. If there's no decal or label how can I tell?

Thank's 284 International. If I get it I will give it the works!

project X, I will take photos of the PS and 3pt even if I don't buy it.

Ciao!
Don

They will have a bulldog sticker or painted on them. the name and actual dog. The other VN loader out of a competitors recon business is the v2 or v3 loader and or vtec. All this will be on the loader itself on the support.

Here are some pictures of a cylinder assist power steering. Also a picture of my 285 Bulldog loader.

Thanks Winston. Nice looking tractor & loader. Loader looks well made. What parts are a concern and hard to get?

Have had the loader and tractor 3-1/2 years. Used the loader a whole bunch, no problems with it at all. It is made as a quick attach but is not equipped with the legs or balance arms that many quick disconnects come with. The loader is heavy on the attaching end and considerable weight must be dealt with when removing it. Not exaggerating, I probably remove and install my loader a dozen times a year. Most of my mowing is with a lot of trees and obstacles and the loader makes turning radius considerably greater. Here is a picture of my support for removing the loader. With added quick disconnects I can remove or install the loader in 10 minutes or less. Not a good picture but maybe shows enough. I'm not sure about parts, I'm pretty confident I could find cylinders or repair the existing. LCI equipment did sell some parts. Not sure they are even around any more. Haven't been by their location at Wills Point, Tx in a while.

FYI - didn't buy the tractor. The tractor worked but it was in rough condition and I could see lots of work and expenses ahead. The implements were also in disrepair with the bush hog partially disassembled. Also, it did not have power steering as advertised.
On the positive side, I got a chance to operate the tractor's loader to find out if it could raise high enough to clear the side of my trailer. I must say, I was impressed with it's reach but can see why so many recommend a hydrostatic transmission and joy-stick loader control.
Eventually, I'll find what I'm looking for. Thank you all for your help.

Thanks for the update; I'm sorry it didn't work out for you (Especially with the drive) but I'm glad you'll be getting something you feel happy with.

If you haven't already found them, coldwater tractors is about the same distance from you as Yakima, (in Hoquiam) but on your side of the Cascades. They're an advertiser here, and build loaders for basically anything you can find, as well as providing some opportunity to check out a variety of models.

As you found, it's awfully hard to beat loader controls on a joystick and a hydrostatic transmission for loader work. If you drive a skid steer, it will spoil you even more. They are all better than a shovel and wheel barrow though.
Some of the Yanmar tractors (the xx10 and xx20 series, and some US market machines) have what is called a Powershift transmission.

In practice, it works out like a clutched automatic transmission that is manually selected. It's a nice combination of a manual transmission and an HST, and basically splits the difference between them. It allows you to up or down shift to meet changing conditions without having to come to a full stop first, but doesn't give you the infinitely variable control within each speed range, only a few gears per range, but it's a good splitting arrangment. You can instantly reach neutral through the transmission, and not have to use the clutch, which can be an advantage to some. In point of fact, I think that once it's been started, those tractors could be run exclusively via the operators' hands, even if they were paraplegic, except for PTO control.

Good luck in your search! Let us know what you find, regardless of color/brand.
