Is it possible that an animal is too old for castration? The animal, which is a goat in this case, is an older breeding goat. If we got him or one similar, we would not use for breeding. Especially if we had more males that females for all the obvious reasons and then some. So, that's the question. Thanks!

Well,well,well,I wouldn't think so.
Have anymore run ins with them bunk beds lately?

We had a man,[semi retarded],[thats retarded not retired], but one of them old hands who could do just about anything like that, who every body called for when they had a pig that needed castration.H e could fix up a sore horses foot and knew how to shoe and trim their hoofs better than most too, He would do the job, never lost a hog, just for the meat,[by meat,I mean the things he just cut off],[no lie],think we always gave him a few dollars and a good supper, but don't think some did.

I know at least on horses.. if you castraste them late.. it just makes them infertile.. it does nothing to change their behavior.. IE.. a male that has been a breeder and is pushy.. stays pushy... don't have goats.. so can't say.

The only thing I know is that Goats will quit baahing in their normal lower range, and will start sounding like a cat....:D:D:D

You heard about the rancher who decided he needed some more bulls to service his heifers. So he purchase a young bull to go along with the older two bulls he all ready owned. When the young bull showed up the older bulls pulled him aside and told him the rules of the game. Part of the heifers were all ready pledge to one old bull and the others were pledged to the other old bull. Well the young one agreed and went on about his business.

One day the three bulls were standing in the pasture when a Semi-truck pulled into the drive. It was loaded so heavy in the cow hauler trailer that the trailer actually was bowed. Hmmm...the three bulls said, "what is this???" Well low and behold the truck backed up to the loading chute and the back slide gate slid open.....and out came a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE, bull. It had horns eight feet across. Well the two older bulls quickly realized the game was up....but low and behold they looked over and here was the young bull pawing dirt and throwing it over his back....and then blowing snot in the air.

The older bulls ran over to him and said...."man what is the matter with you?? Can't you see our game is up?" The young bull says....HECK WITH THE GAME....He can have all the heifers....I JUST WANT HIM TO KNOW I AM A BULL!!!! :D:D

I believe that is true with goats as well... if castrated later in life, they don't lose those "virile habits" like using their own face as a urinal... But goats are the best brush-cleaners on the planet!

Yep -- can be done --not going to change anything but his capability to reproduce -- same goes for any male mammal beyond puberty.:(

We castrated a ram at 3 years. Didn't change his behavior, but stopped getting little goats.

I'll be sure to let my wife know about that next time she threatens me with the pruning shears!
