Is Anyone Making a High Quality 7k Trailer?

I realize I am a bit late to the conversation.....but.....do NOT stress over empty weight so much. Because in my experience and research....those numbers are 100% bogus and made-up numbers allthough some MFG's may be closer than others.

For example.....The Curahee trailer at ~2300# .....has 6" channel iron frame, full wrap tongue, 3" channel crossmembers on 24" spacing and treated 2x8 deck.....
The PJ is only 5" channel iron frame, yet is heavier????
Thing is, you aren't listing what "weight of the different channels" are used.

Last trailer I built there was three different weights per foot of 6" channel available, and depending on which one was used, it made a huge difference in the total weight of the trailer.

I used different weights depending on where I wanted/needed strength, so until you learn what weights were used in each tailer, you can't "assume" to know if the PJ or any other, is lighter or heavier.

I'm just going off of the weights per foot that I have seen standard on all the trailers I have seen in person.

But you are right....the PJ 5" channel could indeed be 9lb per foot stuff compared to c6x8.2 stuff for the others.

But either way.....take the empty weights with a grain of salt. Don't trust them to be accurate. FAR more important things to worry about when choosing a trailer than splitting hairs over a few hundred pounds of metal.

If the weight is that critical...remove the center 2-3 deck boards and don't carry a spare. That will save a few hundred pounds too.

Or get rid of the fold up ramps and carry ramps on the bed of a pickup....that will knock off another couple hundred pounds
