Kubota L series
This may sound like a very dumb question but I have a Woods 750 Bh on an L3710 Kubota. The first night I got it home I parked it and the next morning the BH bucket was on the ground. Isit supposed to stay in place when shut off or was I supposed to lock it before I shut it off.

I would say that is pretty common. Mine does the same thing.

I usually set the bucket on the ground, if the boom lock is not engaged.

The boom lock should be engaged when transporting or using the tractor for other things.

I would not worry at all about the boom drifting down very slowly. Now if it were dropping a foot a minute, that would be a different story...

Almost all backhoes and also loader have some drift. Either put the lock in or put it on the ground. That way the pressure is relieved for the hydraulic system.

As said, its pretty standard that they slump somewhat.

For some reason, they don't have a lock for stabilizers, so I chain the pads to each other in the up positionif I'm planning to not use the backhoe for a few days. It not only saves time when you want to use the hoe or tractor, it means you don't accidentally whack something with a slumping stabilizer.

It particularly useful to do this when you detach and store the backhoe on a dolly (which I recommend whole heartedly.

It's also a good from a safety perspective to lower ALL implements to the ground when the tractor is left unattended so things can't be crushed, or for me, so children can't lower stuff and hurt themsleves, their friends, or pets.

Seems like my dogs just LOVE to sleep under the tractor.

My neighbor is having some excavating work done at his house and the BH operator took a breal while digging the downspout drains next to his house. He has a junky JCB backhoe and one of the out-rigger cylinders is very leaky. This leaked down and caused the BH boom arm to crush the gutter on the side of his house!!

Just something else to think about concerning hydraulic leakdown.

I agree about the safety standpoint. I was moving shale rock in my driveway and the wife came out with the 19 month old (who loves the tractor). I shut it off and locked the brake. My wife handed him up to set on my lap while I was setting there. She was standing to the side and in front of the tractor talking to me when he pushed the FEL joystick to the float position. The bucket came slamming down and almost landed on the wife's foot /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Who would have thought a 19 month old would have been able to move the FEL joystick. Lesson learned and no one got hurt.
