Is everyone ready?

Just walked back in from the garage and it's 29 degree's F, windy as **** and starting to snow here in Fairfield, PA. Looked over at the local ski resort (Ski Liberty) which I am very close to and looks like they have the snow machines in full swing. The entire ski slope is enveloped in a cloud of snow.

It looks like winter will be arriving today. It's snowing as I type this and the temperature is dropping. It should be near 10F tonight.

Did you say, "Down to"? We just "got up to" 10 today.

No snow on the ground and it's supposed to get up into the 30's by the weekend. Probably melt my yard just in time for a 25,000# well truck to come and dig the well 40' deeper. Rotten heat wave!

So, it's not just a rumour, then? The BB is good for plowing snow? Better than the FEL? Why does this just seem strange to me?

Beats an FEL since you can angle the blade and push the snow aside instead of just straight. The FEL bucket is not designed to roll the snow on itself like a snowplow blade will. It just tends to pack full of snow instead and becomes pretty limited. It beats a shovel all to heck, but a rear blade is better and relatively cheap. A front blade beats a rear blade by a pretty good margin, presuming you can raise, lower and angle it. A front blade will cost 2 or 3 times what a rear one does if you buy both new since the rear just hangs on the 3 point and the front needs a frame and cylinders and such.

A couple of us have managed to cobble together a way to hang a rear blade on the front. Mine is in the "projects" forum -- "front mounting rear blade". It isn't as slick as a factory front blade, and I have yet to use it to see if it will work better on the front than on the back, but I'm feeling pretty good about it.

Slip them a few 'bucks' and maybe they would come over and fill your driveway:rolleyes:

I imagine Pineridge will be getting about 6 inches of snow or more. How about the rest of you guys? I should get only 1 to 3, probably not enough to close the schools, but the kids will think we should.

I have my rear blade to front blade modification all done and have practiced with it smoothing the gravel. I've got about 2 years worth of dry firewood on hand, about half of it inside the woodshed. Snow tires for the vehicles are on the rims, just waiting to be put on when things get serious. The generator has been run and checked, ready for the inevitable power failure. Lots of food for people is on hand, bird seed and pet food are good for several days at least. We even have a 12 foot Fraser fir ready to bring in for Christmas when the time is right. I think all is in readiness, so come on down Mr. Winter!

daTeacha,

I guess we should be expecting soon, I usually watch the weather in your neck of the woods you guys always get hit first and hardest.

It was cold here today 9 degrees -I was able to clear in some wet area.
I usually get stuck in the mudd -quite pleased with the frozen ground got a lot done but whole lot more to go.
sorry my first Winter -it's like a new toy again new exp

good day anyway..

Forum title: "Is everyone ready?"

LBrown59's answer to that question: "Folks in Fl. are."

There's a lot less room for confusion in this thread than in the "Will it fly?" thread!

We had our first cold blast and snowfall of a few inches about the 1st of Dec. One day it was 75 and the overnight low was 65 and the next night it was 25, the next was 12 (all F.) We still have traces of snow in protected and shaded locations including our roof on the north side.

Today and tomorrow are forecast to be in 50's.

After all, this is Oklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plains (sometimes all the way from Canada or the north pole.)

The best argument I ever lost to my wife was aver a heated and air conditioned cab on our new tractor. I just love it. I could stand some more A/C some of the time but the heater is ARCTIC ready. Even when it is below 10F yoiu can't run the heat too high as it will drive you out. A heck of a heater.

I'm not always ready for it when it arrives, but I always enjoy it for about the first month. After that I'm always ready for spring!

Iowachild, Why did you edit the picture and remove the lazy curling smoke plume from the chimney? It was a real Norman Rockwell moment till then.

No I didn't edit the photo. There was no fire in the stove. It's our place in paradise that is only week-end type use now, but I hope to retire there. I was only there to shovel the out drive entrance and rake the roof.
How about one with lights?

ok , we got your Missouri snow storm up here in Illinois , thanks for sending it our way. We got 18 inches & alot of big drifts. The back blade was useless until I moved out the bulk of it with the FEL. I hope we are done with the big storms of the season now. UGH, a week & half till winter,
Dan

I'd say the folks in Florida are pretty ready for winter.

Does that mean if I move to Florida that I will be ready for winter or will I just be pretty?

The wife and I put up Christmas lights on the house today. We both got a little sun burned.:D It did get down to the mid to high 60's though . . . almost had to wear long sleeves.

Next week I will decorate the Ocotillo and a couple of the larger cacti and send photos.

We're supposed to be in the high 50s here in Ohio today. I figure the next "Alberta Clipper" is due about this time next week.

I hear the El Nino is not going to be as big as they had first thought. Since the El Nino forecast for this area was for things to be essentially normal, I wonder if that means they will be extra normal, more normal than usual, or what?
