Don't see what everybody suprised by. Whole country went and got addicted to manufacturer direct selling to take distributors out de picture. Less people employed and no regional warehousing by distributors.
Next come JIT addiction. No more stockroom full of material, computer keeps track of what needed and orders and building got docks in every wall so truck bringin de coil steel can deliver right to punch press. No need for forktrucks or drivers on dem. Computer knows all and no annoying humans.
Might as well put dat JIT thing on finish product too. Just slip a plastic bag over almost dry paint and box to load on de truck. Sentry Safe comes to mind. Dat system get rid of people used to eyeball product, quality control, and you can sell de warehouse or rent it out. Along come AmaZoom and dey warehouse & ship for manufacturer at fixed cost per unit. UPS & FedEx do it too. Called Fulfillment Center an dat computer tell manufacturer computer what dey runnin low on.
Works like a charm on paper, till everything go paperless. MBA guys all get bonuses, workers get unemployment. Future factory be all robots.
Along come WuFlu and everybody "work" from home. Somebody at home got program on his plastic box tells him how many employees "working" from home watchin **** like dey did in de office. **** watchers go off payroll.
UPS & FedEx makin so much money deliverin for AmaZoom computer flips out ad alerts a human. AmaZoom buys trucks like dey peanuts and hires human drivers not quite good enough get hired at SWIFT. MBA guys get bonuses.
Employee parking lots pretty much empty 6 months now. lights and AC off in more or less abandoned factory. Big savings for corporate. Only problems I see is how de snow plowing guy gonna make truck payment with no parking lot to plow dis winter. Other problem might be what Corporate gonna sell with nothin bein made?
Gotta say China manufacturing getting better. Just look dat WuFlu dey made, it's still workin with no warranty problems or recalls.
