OK, got it, it was a misspelling on my part, it was Mazda's AMATI division that got axed before it ever got going.....

No problem. But not to add salt to the GM wound, I just bought another Subaru today. It's a 24,895 mile '02 Outback Wagon LL Bean Edition. Guess I'm hooked on the AWD as this is my 4th Subaru.

Don't know if you know but GM owns about 20% of Subaru's parent Fuji Industries.

Although GM does own 20% of Subaru, Subaru does not fall completely under the GM umbrella. Subaru seems to be doing fine as a company, their sales for April were up 23%... giving them their best April in the company's history. But...
You can still buy a Subaru Impreza and get the GM employee discount. Although Subaru isn't under the GM umbrella, Saab is. And the new Saab 9-2x AWD sports compact is really a Subaru Impreza in disguise. Saab changed the schnozz, tightened up the suspension a little, and gave it a few interior refinements to distinguish it from the Subaru, but it's essentially the exact same car. And Saab is offering the employee discount on all models through the first week of July.

What do you suppose GM is going to do after the Employee Discount scam is up to sell new cars?

Just rename it. The prices they're offering now with the employee discount are the same as they had with their "red tag" sale a few months back.
I think they just change the names now and then so people that like the tag line for a certain sale run out and buy one before the offer deadline expires.
