Is it worth it to have more than the minumum car insurance?

You would think that McDonald's would have security camera footage of the happenings in their drive thru area. I would check with them and see if they did. Might have caught the accident on tape.

Well, that was a small amount of damage. What if you, or your wife actually had / has an at fault accident ,and cause real damage, seriously injure someone ,and you only have 15K liability coverage ? I really doubt someone is going to settle for just your 15K coverage.

15K isn't even going to pay for most vehicles, much less a serious injury, or even a death.You will most likely lose everything you have.....Our state min is 50 K. I have 2 mil.

it happens every day. When I was in business. My Liability insurance payed out a lot just for fraud.Example:: Your men worked on my furnace, A/C unit , etc, and now my tv, washer, dryer, you name it, won't work....They will most always pay out a little to keep it from going to court, and most people know this.

Alleged minor fender bender.........IN A PRIVATE PARKING LOT to boot.....not on a public road with police report/statements.

I agree.....something sounds off. Its amazing at the number or worthless people that live in this country and want everything for nothing. What the h3ll is wrong with people today.

I was rear-ended about 5 years ago sitting at a traffic light. Winter and slick roads. Wasnt bad at all....just a little bump that wasnt any different than if I pull my car just a little too far into the garage and bump the ZTR. Put a few scratches in the paint on the plastic bumper cover of my beater 01 saturn work car. Got ~$500 to replace it and I was fine with that.

As my post #7 said; there are groups that go around looking for the perfect accident. The doctor and lawyer are probably working with the "victims". I have a hard time believing the real victim here has insurance that is paying out for this "accident."

I carry $100k per person, $300k per accident liability limits, these days $15k won't cover a car, much less a real injury. My feeling is that if I cause an accident that seriously injures someone, I want to have enough insurance that it can do something meaningful for them.

I've been on the other side of this, I had a guy pull out in front of me after blowing through a stop sign with a county work crew as witnesses. It caused nerve damage to C4/C5 and C5/C6 that 4 years later still causes me problems. I really need surgery to fix it but don't have the health insurance to cover it and the minimum liability policy the guy had ($30k in Texas) didn't go very far in helping me. Despite having the MRI's, CT, X-Rays and EEG tests results that clearly showed both the physical and nerve damage and being under the care of a neurosurgeon, I had to file a lawsuit against the insurance company to get what I did, about $16k after the attorney got their share, and it barely covered what I'd spent over the previous 2.5 years on care out of my own pocket.

So when thinking about your liability limits, put yourself in the shoes of the person on the other end of the accident and do what you think is right. If you're ever really at fault for something, you'll sleep a lot better at night knowing you did something to make them whole again.

I don't know how it is in other areas, but here, there are these personal injury lawyers on tv all day long trying to get anyone that has been in any type of accident to call them, as they have recovered millions for accident victims.

Years ago you had a fender bender , your insurance just paid for the other persons vehicle to be repaired , and you went on about your business. These TV personal injury lawyers are responsible for all this
