I don't want to talk bad about the gator and I am sure most folks are enjoying theirs.
We had leased a couple for a construction site for the surveying crew. granted, they didn't crawl around with them, but we had broken chains, wheels that came off and some other problems.
Went with a couple of other brand rigs and didn't have a problem all year. I just feel when we lay out the kind of money we do for rigs to work and play with, we shouln't have to worry about them falling apart.

I hear ya. What models and how old?

The only Gators that had chains was the 6x4. I had one, they were tough but not nearly as advanced as the HPX. Rough ride, fairly slow and would get stuck easy because of the low ground clearance.
The local Kubota dealer has had at least 6 1100's and several 900's sitting on the lot for several weeks. Probably has to do with the high costs of the units.

they were rentals, and I don't know how old they were. they were the 6x4's though. like the fellow said about ground clearance, I do rember pushing them out of a mud hole a couple of times with a dozer.
just a personal opinion, I think my money would be spent elsewhere.

Only part of the 6x4 that compares to the XUV is the color and the JD name.
They are rear wheel drive only compared to ALL wheel drive XUV. They have 6 inch's of ground clearance compared to 11.
The 6x4's are the golf and turf additions of the gator.

The 6x4's are work horses. I'm thinking you (the original poster) got some machines that were just rammed into everything in sight since they were rentals. Really though, I did a lot of stuff with my 6x4 and it never failed. The only issue that wasn't due to me being a nut was the clutch went out on it, that was something that my dealer messed up though because it was grinding the gears since day one. The only reason we didn't get it fixed right away was when the guy who took it off the trailer he was grinding the gears a little and said "don't worry that's normal"... But the 6x4 is certainly as tough as any other JD product, it just is VERY weak on the trails. Still fun on the trails but not worth much compared to an HPX let alone an XUV.
