when picking black berries this year the dog decided to try some. He seemed to love the first big juicy one I gave him and there were a few low hanging ones that were nice & big & juicy sweet, he started lightly nibbling em off watching us pick them (he is too smart for his own good) and since dogs are color blind I dont think he got that the BLACK ones were ripe lol, he got a big one which was still a few days away from ready to eat & I could tell it must have been a nice sour one hehehe :p needless to say he was a little more careful sniffing them carefully then grabbing one. then he discovered the thorns and decided to beg for the juicy ones from us human pickers...

Grapes are funny in that some dogs obviously have a high tolerance to them and others all it takes is one to shut down the kidneys.
Can't blame a dog for eating something that smells good, lol. And sometimes not so good...

I used to go to the grapevine & share them with my Lab, until someone warned me about the kidney problems.

Remember the old tale of "The Fox and the Grapes"? Perhaps old Rey knew something he wasn't telling us. Or as Paul Havey would say "Now you know The Rest of the story." ;)

Bogey the Ravenous Labrador accompanied me on my trip to the mulberry tree this summer. He runs past it all the time, but apparently never noticed it before. Noticing things isn't really his best skill, if you catch my meaning.

I started pulling the ripe berries off the low branches, and he caught in his mouth one that came off and went flying unexpectedly. He got a look on his face that said, in as good as plain English, "You mean these things are food?!?" From that point on, it was a race. I got enough for my purposes, but Bogey gained at least a pound that day.
