Is my MF 231 running too hot??

Actually I take that back. I did try the flow test and even when hot I didn't see any movement. So I removed the Tstat and found it was in 2 pieces which I had to fish them out. My Tstat was partly plastic and partly metal and the two pieces separated apart. When I bought a new one I was happy to see they changed it to all metal. This was my 2004 MF 461

Start it up and feel the top hose, does it feel like water is going thru it? if yes your stat is stuck open and needs replaced.

I doubt its stuck open though if its over heating. I'm more concerned thats its damaged and or not opening like mine did.

Whenever I find out what the problem is, you can be sure I'll post back on here what it was. I'm thinking it has something to do with the thermostat because the engine is hot as can be and from touching the radiator, it has no temperature at all. Cold as it can be!

THANK YOU!

Oh and while I'm thinkin about it, what is the best antifreeze I can put back in the radiator after I flush it? Particularly what my local Walmart, Oreilly's, Autozone or Napa sells.

What's in it now (and has been for 6-7 years) is 50/50 Prestone from Walmart.

Also, while I'm at one of these stores, what kind of grease do y'all recommend for tractors, implements, and lawnmowers with greasable spindle bearings?? NOT trying to start a new thread on this OR any arguements! Just would like to know what y'all use or recommend.

THANKS TO ALL!!!

I tend towards Fleetguard coolant and Lucas grease

As mentioned Fleetguard is a great product. Of their line I would use fleet cool line as its a standard coolant with a additive package. Hard to find where I live so I use Napa Heavy Duty per attached picture. Same basic Ethylene Glycol base with a additive package. If you have a diesel then this is type coolants you want. Peak and others offer one too. These type coolants in many cases will be pink in color vs green. May even have pink caps Sent from my iPhone using TractorByNet

Thanks! What about anything with Prestone at Walmart or Autozone??
U thought diesels are supposed to use Propylene glycol instead of ethylene glycol...

Prestone makes one too but I doubt you find any of those at those stores. Sent from my iPhone using TractorByNet
