This is not really true. Synthetic oils are generally thinner then organic oils but because of their additive packages they meet the requirements of goverment standards. Oils such as Mobil1 and syntec contain organic oil base stock. Oils such as Amsoil, Red line and royal purple are actually true synthetics which accounts for their higher prices. That is BS. The same old issues with BITOG is the site "directs" users to only show positive results. Example, I have been over there for years and always get emails, PM copies, etc from older users when threads are removed (edited) etc that did not show positives results toward a certain product. Even the owner is bringing the place down. When Terry leaves, you are losing your credits people...

It is a good place to see other UOA's and that is it.

So my stance is it is an okay site but take all the sponsers as salesman.It is the same people posting on certain things time and time again. Then product vendors post laugable comments and you cannot question them without being attacked. Go and look. When someone needs to make a thread about "please go easy on the old sponser"...ROFLMAO..

I don't think I would use it (or change over to) synthetic in a high mileage engine. You may notice oil leaks

Some manufacturers' recommend not using synthetic oils in differentials that are sealed with RTV and not gaskets. Certain RTV sealants are not compatible with synthetic oil. Also Chevrolet trucks with oil cooler lines will have to have the oil cooler lines replaced more often when synthetic oil is used. I've actually observed this on my families vehicles as well as many of my customers. If a high mileage engine is switched from conventional to synthetic oil it will only develop leaks if the conventional oil wasn't changed often enough. Conventional oil will sludge up around the seals of engines and create a seal itself and starve the original seals of lubrication if the oil wasn't changed often enough. This causes the engines seals to harden and fail. When this same engine is switched to synthetic oil the higher detergent properties of synthentic oil breaks down this carbon/sludge buildup and now the oil can get past the seals that had failed long ago.

The leak was probably stopped up with the dino ( gum/ sludge).. But, When the synthetic washes/ cleans all the gum away from the seals, It is possible to start leaking

yup, called false seal and it would leak in the end. Synthetic cleaned it out, which is a good thing..
