Is the Cyber Truck a Flop?

End of the article:

"After everything was said and done, we sold the remains of our Cybertruck to online auction site Copart for — deep breath — $8,000.
But, hey, at least our ill-fated Fisker Ocean is no longer No. 1 on the "cars on which we've taken the biggest bath" leaderboard."
My bet is any $100K vehicle that has that kind of damage will have a massive repair bill and will be totaled.
Hopefully the dude had gap insurance if he had a loan.

Things are undoubtedly bad at Tesla. Its sales are dwindling. Its profits are plunging, as is its share price. There are regular protests outside its showrooms. The Cybertruck is a flop. And somehow, it’s actually a lot worse than that.
Tesla is fine. Quit listening to the fake news.
Tesla makes the best EV in the world.

Yea, that was from the article, not my words.

I do think margins and sales are shrinking and the Cyber Truck wasn't a very good idea, but Elon liked it. I'm sure you're right about them making the best EV, for now anyway.

I wish the Cybertruck wasn't so polarizing. My wife hates the look and said she couldn't stand looking at it in our driveway if I bought one.
And I really hope other EV brands become better than Tesla. I would like to have more options but right now Tesla EV tech can't be beat.

Basically the cyber truck design is (putting it kindly) way ahead of its time. So much so that most people reject the design even though they like the idea of an electric truck with an indestructible body and 300 plus mile range. Its a marketing flop because buyers generally won't accept the look of it. That's my initial impression and still is - It's ugly yes, but the big thing is it doesn't look anything like your neighbors truck. And even though that was the designers intention, it was a bad idea or maybe they just went too far?

I test drove a CT about 2 months ago for 3 hours. I really liked the drive aspect. I think that part is a homerun.

I think the Cybertruck concept is ahead of its time. However Tesla not only failed to deliver on their concept, but also failed to fix several minor issues in the jump from their concept vehicle to the production vehicle. Things it turns out pickup users actually care about. It's like the Tesla engineers only looked at a pickup spec sheet and never actually used a pickup truck at all.

Combine those failures with eye-wateringly high prices and the Cybertruck ended up competing in an entirely different market than originally expected. The luxury truck market really cares about perception and having utilitarian styling doesn't normally get you the necessary perception.

Your kindness has extended to lying to yourself, scootr! :ROFLMAO: Saying it’s ahead of its time is implying anything will look like that in the future.

The closest those cosmetics will ever be to mainstream is actually in our past, when a bunch of teenage boys wanted the Delorean from Back to the Future, ca.1986.

A bloated stainless steel box will never have widespread appeal.

Short of the wheels themselves falling off, I can’t imagine a more “major” problem than trailer hitches falling off of tow vehicles. I would never characterize that problem as minor.

It sounds like I’m bashing on the CT, I guess because I see what it could have been, and it’s frustrating to see such a horrendously bad execution of such a wonderful idea. Hopefully one of the big 3 will finally get it right, a BEV or PHEV pickup that actually works as a pickup truck, doesn’t look like something designed by a 14 year old sci fi fanatic in the mid-1980’s, and can actually be used to safely tow trailers.
