Is the Cyber Truck a Flop?

A friend of mine always drives Lincolns. He said the dealer he uses told him last year that he was dropping his dealership because Lincoln planned to go all electric and he couldn't afford the investment to service the EVs. Of course, the plans may have changed with the recent lowered projections for EV sales.

If anyone looks it up:
"Dealerships are installing new lifts for electric vehicles (EVs) because traditional lifts cannot safely or effectively accommodate the unique weight, structure, and battery placement of EVs. Specialized EV lifts are necessary to prevent serious damage to the car and ensure technician safety."

Not for ICE cars & trucks they've been working on for years. New equipment and training for mechanics, in turn passed on to the consumer.
That makes more sense. Still interesting they chose 50T lifts, though. What EV is tipping the scales at 100,000 pounds? That's tri-axle dump truck territory!

It must be a flop. Sales are down and not much hope of that changing.

We can debate why, and that may be informative, but it does not change reality.

I have not seen posts from Gale Hawkins for a while. Wonder what he thinks about the “death spiral” now.

A few months ago we purchased a Toyota Highlander. Was hoping the next vehicle would be an EV but it still does not make sense for us. Maybe next time.

Geez, you're right! Nothing since July. I hope the old coot is okay!

Our local GM dealer dropped Buick for the same reason with Buick going all EV by 2030. Their 3 locations elected not to do the mandatory upgrades to service any GM EVs. Would have cost $500,000 per location. You have to sell a lot of EVs to recoup that overhead. In a small town that isn't happening.

Plus some cities have also put future bans in place for ICE sales…

My city has a policy not to permit new fuel stations, repair shops, etc…

Why? Are there too many fuel stations?

None in the town I live in but the next town is close enough.
No… it’s a policy not to support ICE industry.

Oakland is just one of several that have declared war on ice and not just vehicles but also blowers and trimmers…

As long as Tesla is in business there won't be an EV death spiral.
