Is the Cyber Truck a Flop?

I'm on the, CT is not pleasant for me to look at so wouldn't even bother bandwagon. The electric doors are also a put off, what happens when it's covered in ice (North-easterner here) or the battery is dead for some reason? Manual doors at least as backup please. I like the look of the Tesla cars and think Elon is a brilliant guy, I have nothing against him but some things rub me wrong on the vehicles. I've been in a Tesla car and a Ford Mach E, the Mach E is more to my liking inside and out but to each his own.

BTW, I don't mind the side view of the Rivians but don't like the front or back so also a pass.

I read it, but I must be missing your point. The hitch fell off. Arguing about which component failure caused the hitch to fall off isn't really relevant or of any interest to me. When my own trailer passes me at 45 mph, I'm not going to arguing with my passenger about which component failure lead to the current situation.

First of all the hitch on a CT would not "fall off" while driving.

How many people abuse their tractors and then complain that the cylinders for the front loader gets bent?

Was that guy abusing his Tesla? Were all of them?

I respect your opinion about the CT, just don't spread disinformation.

I hope I'm not spreading disinformation, I'm only repeating what I've seen posted by CT owners. Thankfully, I hear the issue has been resolved, that it only affected units manufactured up until the discovery of the issue middle of this year.

The fact that threads like this exist and people are polarized by the CT shows that the Cybertruck is a huge success.

I'll admit that it's been successful in making people talk. But if anything, I'd argue it's probably been detrimental to the overall momentum of the growth in EV popularity, by alienating so many potential converts.

But more importantly and objectively, measured in dollars of sales versus expectation, it has not been a huge success.

Because the sole owner of Rivian never predicted sales at 1250% that of the actual result. If Elon had never gone public which such hugely inflated sales predictions, no one would be able to call it a flop.

I hope these guys make a dent. Maybe make a difference. The design is brilliant. If the battery trays are replaceable, we have something. If only a company would say, they were attempting that, and make the new rules for plug and play. Here is your super battery, that fits your car. Just like AAs. And can be substituted in minutes, and these are mostly charged by solar power. This would be the next Tesla.

It's a cool concept. For $50k I would want something bigger. The range looks good.

If you make a product that only sells 10 in a year, it's a flop... if you thought it was going to sell 1000. If you thought you could sell 10 and you sold 10, that's success at least by that measure. If you thought you would sell 1000 but only could sell 100, that's a flop, especially if you're left with a bunch of inventory - then it's not only a flop but really lousy execution.

Did you read "why" the hitch "fell" off and "what" fell off?

Casting did not "snap in half", the back two rails broke where the hitch/bumper assembly attach.

During a segment of the video, the Cybertruck is driven across a row of 4 foot culverts. At the end of the row, the Cybertruck gets stuck and is pulled out with the F-150, and when it clears the last Culvert, it is dropped with force on the rear of the truck and the Culvert and then again on a concrete spike on the ground.

The Cybertruck is rated to tow 11,000 lbs and a tongue weight of 1,110 lbs. In this case, a more than 6k lb truck was dropped right on top of the trailer hitch, and rear structure of the truck from a height. The vertical forces that the rear of the truck were submitted to were well beyond that of any truck on the market today is rated to handle. This ultimately led to the failure we later see when the F-150 is attached to the rear of the Cybertruck and pulled hard.

Promise you the CT hitch won't "fall off" in normal driving unless you tortured it like the video.

Is the whole battery thingy to me. There has to be a standard battery pack. And it has to do something you just can just replace straight out. Like changing a battery in your camera, just on a bigger scale. Cause then we can have a different type of gas station.
It has all these charged up batteries, using solar, or what ever. And you show up, get the new battery, pay your charge, and you are done, in 10 minutes for the next 350 miles. .

Again, this is a bit beside the primary point of the post that spawned this tangent, as I would never get close enough to buying a CT for the hitch to even become a factor.

But yes, I did read that post. He wrote, "the back two rails broke where the hitch/bumper assembly attach". So the frame rails to which the hitch assembly is attached broke, which allows the hitch to become disconnected from the vehicle. This is not any different from what had been claimed previously by other posters.

Are you under the impression that because the failure happened in the frame to which the hitch receiver is attached, rather than within the receiver itself, that somehow makes that CT any less unsafe for towing?

"No worries Doug, you can see the whole rear cross-member of the truck is still attached to it!"

"So, that makes it okay, Bob?"

And yes, I know about the video of the guy who dropped his CT onto the hitch, which broke it. Yes, that's abuse, not normal use. But that was only made in response to other prior cases of the hitch falling off of these trucks. If you don't believe that, then why did Tesla make such a huge deal about changing the design and applying adhesive to the older designs to fix a problem that never existed?
