It is a free country until the government gets involved with edicts and bribes. Yes, tax incentives are bribes.

Most people here have above average experience and intelligence. It seems to me some may lack common sense.

Buy what you want and be happy.

Again, this is a bit beside the primary point of the post that spawned this tangent, as I would never get close enough to buying a CT for the hitch to even become a factor.

But yes, I did read that post. He wrote, "the back two rails broke where the hitch/bumper assembly attach". So the frame rails to which the hitch assembly is attached broke, which allows the hitch to become disconnected from the vehicle. This is not any different from what had been claimed previously by other posters.

Are you under the impression that because the failure happened in the frame to which the hitch receiver is attached, rather than within the receiver itself, that somehow makes that CT any less unsafe for towing?

"Hey Bob, your boat just passed us on the shoulder!"

"No worries Doug, you can see the whole rear cross-member of the truck is still attached to it!"

"So, that makes it okay, Bob?"

And yes, I know about the video of the guy who dropped his CT onto the hitch, which broke it. Yes, that's abuse, not normal use. But that was only made in response to other prior cases of the hitch falling off of these trucks. If you don't believe that, then why did Tesla make such a huge deal about changing the design and applying adhesive to the older designs to fix a problem that never existed?
Any truck with a hitch put through that abuse would probably have it's hitch "fall off".
Just don't expect a CT hitch to just "fall off" while towing. If so this would be a prevaling issue.
I understand you hate the CT but just don't use the hitch "falling off" as an excuse. Ugly? OK.

That "Then when someone posts it's fugly I'm going to ask that poster to show a picture of his wife so we can critique." has to be the most disrespectful thing I've ever read on TBN. Everyone should not reply to Trad.
Uh oh. My comment hit too close to home?
How is it different saying to a CT owner his truck is fugly? If I owned a CT, which I probably will just to pi$$ off other people, I would take it personally.

lol... I really don't hate the CT. I love the tech, I just hate the looks. I guess that's why it frustrates me so much, as I'd love to buy and try one for my next truck, but their stupid design made that impossible for me to consider.

But are you saying all of the various claims posted around the internet, of hitches falling off, are isolated to this one guy who dropped a CT onto its hitch. There are zero actual cases of failure while under normal use?

And if yes, why did Tesla change the design, and make a big campaign over this special hitch-mounting adhesive?

Is the whole battery thingy to me. There has to be a standard battery pack. And it has to do something you just can just replace straight out. Like changing a battery in your camera, just on a bigger scale. Cause then we can have a different type of gas station.
It has all these charged up batteries, using solar, or what ever. And you show up, get the new battery, pay your charge, and you are done, in 10 minutes for the next 350 miles. .
The "gas station" analogy doesn't work for an EV since the majority of charging is done at home. I haven't been to a gas station in 2 years and my electric rate hasn't fluctuated like gas prices either. I plug in when I get home and wake up to "full tank of gas".

CT hitch
Interesting discussion on the Tesla forum.
Elon is polarizing
The CT is polarizing.
Tesla company gets more attention and views.
Mission accomplished.

I Have repeatedly abused beaters like that, have ripped the rear seat out by attaching a long chain to a log in the rear seat, but never tore a hitch off. And those were unibody sedans.

If a "truck" cant take that same abuse, its junk.
