Is the Expedition ecoboost the same as the F150 ecoboost?

Piston, the F-150 will be all new (and much improved) for 2015. The Expedition will carry over the old/current body style and running gear for a while longer (don't recall if they have announced if/when it will move over to the new platform). The current generation is getting a bit long in the tooth, so it might be worth your while to read up on plans for the future model.

I looked at the new GMs when shopping for trucks a couple months ago, and they are very nice. Probably best in class at the moment, certainly a massive improvement over the previous models.

I have an '08 Expedition EL with 110K miles. It has the 5.4 V8 with 6spd trans and 4wd. It drives and handles great, especially in winter/rain - bad weather. I pulled a Bobcat T190 with it a few weeks ago, definitely wasn't going to win any races but I also didn't feel the trailer trying to push it around either. It should be fine with the pontoon and able to handle the occasional bigger load too. Hopefully the Ecoboost does better on gas, I get 15 mpg summer and 14.5 mpg with winter blends. On a long trip at 65mph it might climb up to 16mpg.

I'd buy it again.

Thanks for the info, that does help! I'm not sure how much better on gas it will be as the numbers aren't out on it yet, however, I read somewhere that Ford is expecting a roughly 15% increase in mileage, so who knows how accurate that would be.

Since it will have considerably more power, and pretty impressive torque numbers at only 2500rpm, as long as it gets the same or better mileage I'll be happy.

I've actually been thinking, I may end up using this a lot more as my standard tow vehicle for the tractor than I originally thought. I can keep my load under 9k lbs as long as I don't bring numerous implements with me, and since I tow to the same place, I may be money ahead to just buy an extra bush hog and box blade and just leave those up there. Sure would be cheaper than buying myself another truck in the long run.

Currently we are a one car family, all we have is the VW Jetta. When I need to tow I use my old truck, now my dads. Maybe the Ex would allow us to stay a one car family.

I have seen rumors, hints, that the 2015 has fixes for both the CAC condensation problem and the DFI intake valve carbon build-up problem.

The 2015, like the Lexus GS has done for years, uses SFI for low HP cruise, which of course also serves to "wash" the back side of the intake valves.

DFI is reserved for boost mode.

The CAC now has a vane/shutter system that automatically closes and blocks cooling airflow through the CAC during "off-boost" driving.

The question becomes, will prior purchase Ecoboost owners be offered a retrofit kit??

One could see that retrofitting the vane/shutter system to older F150 Ecoboost trucks might be entire possible, POC!

SFI....?? NOT!

But, wouldn't a simple single throttle injector also solve the problem, PLUS keep the entire throttle body clear of EGR deposits?

Ford... Listening!

I'm not a Ford guy by any means but a carpet bomb of the same rant across multiple threads won't endear yourself here..Just sayin. ;)

I don't know if they changed the ecoboost but I just bought a 2015 expedition to replace my 2012. I loved how my 2012 towed so I assume the 2015 will only be better when I get the chance to tow. I have a boat that I tow that weighs about 6000 pounds and a kubota l3540 that is probably a little over weight but I never tow far. If your looking for a big Suv I think you will be happy with the expedition. Here are pics of the old and new image.jpgimage.jpg

Good to see you here from the Ford Truck Forum. I see we have a new 2015 Expedition and a Kubota tractor in common. LOL.
