Is the lower radiator heater cord shot??

I don't remember seeing a meter that read 0 ohms for open circuit - I have two here (diffenent manufacturers) and they both display 0L when circuit is open. The meter will display 0.000 on volt or amps but as soon as you go to the ohm scale it will change to 0L. It must stand for OverLoad or something.

ol on a digital meter means: (zero) o load. NOT over load, which is on the opposite side of the scale of load(s). Zero in the form of one or several is all the same thing: an open circuit= NO continuity, zippo, zilch, nada.

Please see attached pages from meter manual. Seems to me I've seen some meters that displayed the big number 1 and the rest of the display blank for over range.

Your manual proves my point. Too large a value shows as 'ol' as would an OPEN circuit= infinite resistance. Infinite resistance is equivalent to two parallel lines running off into the distance; and theoretically they NEVER meet, hence an OPEN. Two test leads not contacting any resistance is an open circuit.

Try Googling (sp?) 'ol' on an ohm meter means what?

I already did and it says: "If you Ohm a circuit and get no movement of the needle or you get O.L. on a digital meter, that means you have an open. An open means that you have no ..."

Turn the meter to ohms, any scale, and touch the test leads together. This should produce a reading other than 0. Undo the leads and the reading should be 0 or several zeros. So zero means open circuit= NO connection between two terminals. A reading of anything greater than o, (zero) indicates a connection, continuity, between two terminals~ thus a closed circuit.

Hope this helps folks understand how to render the results and interpret what they mean.;)

Don't want to start a pi**ing match, just wanted to point out in post 30 you indicated 0 or several zeros meant open circuit.

OL = open loop

One zero, 4 zeros, 100 zeros - zero = zero/open/nothing.
What is so hard to comprehend here?:confused2:

I have to agree with Donnie on this. I think you got your wires crossed in your explanation. Read my #34 post above. Zero ohms is much different than infinity. Zero ohms will read 0.0 and infinity will read an overload display.

OK, OK. You and Donnie are correct and I apologize for not realizing it earlier. I finally went out to my barn and grabbed two of my various meters. When on ohms scale with leads NOT touching reading was one (1).
And when leads were touching the reading was 00.0, or an equivalent depending on scale in use.
(this is what sometimes happens when the 'ole guy, (me) does things strictly from memory, {I'm setting up my case for diminished capacity at 58+ }.

Anyway I should have gone and fetched the meter earlier to reduce the possible confusion I may have brought to the table when all I really wanted to do was clarify things for those who might otherwise struggle with what the meter readings mean. My bad- again I acknowledge fault, and mea culpa.

I know the feeling - I'm 58 minus (be 58 this fall). I had the advantage, I didn't have to go to the barn, meter was in the house.

Bob---So what is the final result with your rad hose heater?
I have just spent over $30 buying a new cord for mine and then found that the whole heater was just over $40...
