Is there a compact Dozer out there?

My JD350 is about in that range. It's an older unit and weights 11K but has plenty of grunt, was affordable and parts are plentiful.

I was going to suggest a Case 350 to him. Our Case 450 weighed 15k with just the loader, and 18k with the backhoe and loader. So I guess a Case 350 with a blade would weigh about the same as your JD350.

The two are close, but the Case seems to be a less desired brand by the searching I've done so didn't suggest it... Don't shot the messenger!! haha

I picked up a Case 310 about 2 years ago after I started a dozer search (intending to get a Komatsu or Mitsubishi grey dozer). I ended up with the Case because it was only about 5 miles from my house and about half the price of what I was looking to spend.

It is not an ideal, modern machine - but it sure beats a shovel! I had used Case dozers before with 6 way blades and powershift transmissions. This one has a four way blade (up, down and angle left/right) and is a straight shift 3 speed with reverse (1st and reverse are in a straight line). It would not do for someone who wants to work it professionally, but for my needs it is awesome. It will not push over gigantic trees, but it will take out some good sized ones. I've learned to take it easy while I work it, because I'd rather take twice as long to dig something out/push than to spend that time (and money) working on a dozer that I broke.

The only things that I've done are maintenance items and adding some brushguards. I'm sure sooner or later something will break, but after doing a lot of clearing and digging a pond, if it laid down on me, I would feel that I'm close to the break-even point if I sold it for scrap.

Good luck and take care.

If it was to die and you wanted it to go to a good home, let me know. I love these machines. I just finished doing a few things to mine.

Brian it looks as if you have done a lot of work on that old dozer. Very nice! On you first photo I am not sure I would drive up that ramp in front of the dozer. :D

I can see why you call your place Mountain View Ranch, pretty.

MarkV, thanks for the complements. As far as the first pic, that is just plywood that I had on the lawn so that it wouldn't get torn up when I turned. Some guys worry about tearing up their lawn with R1s, try it with a set of tracks.:D

As far as the 310, it has over 10,000 hours and needed some help. Replaced a few things, hydraulic pump, lift and angle hydraulic cylinders, all hydraulic lines, added a hydraulic fluid filter, new radiator, valve job, added some rear lights, some paint and new decals. Should last awhile longer, I have had the 310 for over 15 years and it has been a good machine for me. ;)

I am very pleased with the BD2F Mitsubishi that I have owned for six years. It is in the 10,000 lb. class. I completely bebuilt the undercarriage, replaced fuel line, starter, added a 4 post ROPS, limb risers etc. I have more invested than I can get for it but it is very dependable.

I owned an OC 4 Oliver dozer and it was okay for real small jobs. I wish I had kept it for tractor shows.

My 310 is no where even close to the beautiful specimen that Brian has. But it has been a good machine so far. This is a picture of right after I bought it. I have added some guarding around the operator area for protection while clearing and some brushguards on the radiator and above the blade.

I plan on doing some more clearing in the fall once I get some bushhogging done.

And for what it's worth, I finally did get all the crap picked up out of that field, and the hay barn in the back ground is now skinned in a nice Hawaiian blue/mocha tan metal combo instead of the galvanized sheeting/rust facade that it had!
