FxdGrMind;1903494 Can't wait to get it and put it to work on the piles I've already got stacked! [/QUOTE said:
You'll love it for the first few hours. That thing will wear you out. These machines will work you pretty hard. But it sure is nice when it's all gone and you dont' have any brush left. Pretty sweet.... and tiring. Be safe: eyes, ears, hands and feet.

Oh, I know about being worked over.... Spent Sat using the 3pt splitter... I've stacked all I can and still have a huge pile left from the Sat splitting.

Just got to love tools though. Even though they work you hard, it would be far worse without them.

Cheers and thanks everyone. I'll keep my fingers and such free of the chipper.

It seems like the original poster preferred the Bearcat, but couldn't see paying the price for it. I looked at both a Bearcat and the Wallenstein and preferred the Wallenstein. Price wasn't much of an issue for me.

After using it for 40 plus hours this last year, I am very happy with the choice. It takes a little practice to get good at using it. The wood I chipped was jack pine mostly so it was very soft. I kept an eye on the condition of the chipper and sharpness of the blades, but it just didn't need any maintenance.

My tractor is rated at 27 hp at the PTO.

Thanks for the input smfcpacfp.

The BearCat was a local supplier, hence orrigional preference. The Wallenstien was my second choice but found that it is un-beatable in price point and what appears to be a more "Simple" design. Where by simple means less to break down out in the woods.

Just took a look at your Tractor pictures, and seeing the BX42 in comparison to your B3030 indicates to me that it's probably the perfect choice for my B7800.

Cheers and thanks!

I don't have a Wallentein or Bearcat, but a Salsco 6" with hydraulic feed. Two items I'd recommend trying on actual, or similar models:

1. feed tray angle and ease to tip-up for travel. I found that the 6" Wallenstein was very heavy and the angle was a little steep. (easier to load saplings if the tray is almost level).

2. Ease of opening the disc housing to clear jambs. Although you can feed some dead limbs and evergreen limbs in, we've found you need to mix green hardwood in to "clear" the housing out.

I have a Salsco 624 Works great for what I do. Over 3" is firewood under is chips. Just cleaned up the dead limbs from the winter with it yesterday

I was told $3200 for the Wallenstein BX42 at my local dealer. The piggy bank doesn't hold that much right now.

Ouch! Look around for used. I picked up my Bush Hog 610p for $600. Except for sharpening the blades, it's like new. You should also price a Goossen.
