wow, I'm sure the Landa's are good... but they sure aren't cheap!

Anyone know the difference between an Axial and Crankcase pump in a commercial unit like the Landas?

i have a karcher I got from lows. was about 85$ or so. it's the upright model.. there is a horizontal model as well. from looking at the parts diagram, the horizontal is the exact same pump and unit and motor with different plastic. 1 difference betweenthe 2 of them. the horizontal model has a retainer clip on a fitting for the hose to go straight out the side/ back of the unit. ont he upright, in between those fittings is a composite elbow.. hose attaches to that and it attches to pump.

that composite elbow is about 20$.. plus shipping.. the lil associated orings and clip pieces with it kick it to near 35$.. and you will have 54$ in it when shipped..

I was pressure washing with mine 13m after I got it and that lil composite elbow developed a crack that was venting pressurized water continously. after some web research, I concluded I wouldn't spend 54$ on a 85$ used pressure washer.

the engineer in me made me smoke over the diagrams and notice the units were the same. i took the plastic shroud apart, removed the leaking elbox, and drilled a new hole closer to the bottom of the unit, so the hose could make a 45' exit from the plastic housing.

net rusuylt is I have about 3" less hose, it's not coming out the oem hole, and still works fine.. some 5ys later.

I notice walmart and harbor freight have similar models.. all around 1200-1800 psi.. similar prices too.

mine cleanes rust and grease off tractors real good.. cleans concret fine and BBQ grill racks as well as vynal siding.

i'd get another electric onein a heartbeat if mine finished dieing today.

light.. easy to use, no stale gas and gummed up carbs to deal with.. and actually takes very lil power to run.. a small genny would run it, if not near power ( though if not near power, you'd still need flowing water source..e tc. )

If I had to buy a gasser.. walmart has a campbel hausfeld for not too much money. decent looking lil machine.. not a back breaker to drag around or laod into a pickup truck.

a quick update on prices.. I searched online walmart, TSC, lowes , etc. looks like electrics from CH or karcher, or a couple other brands run the range of about 88-150$ for between 1200 and 1800 psi.. with 1600 psi and about 120-130 being in themiddle.. though did see some 100$ unit that were close at 1500 psi / 100$. from lowes or harbor freight, and 88-95 at walmart., and a 1600 psi unit at northern tool for 100$.. most units in the 1.2 to 1.3 gpm, and the higher $ models more towards 120+$ were 1.5-1.6 gpm models.

for gassers, lowes 279, harbor freight 269, 239 at walmart. with northern tools at 299$

hope this helps

Thanks, very helpful. I'm pretty set on avoiding gas if I can - I use a pressure washer rarely enough that it just seems to be a nightmare with gassers. Seems like go cheap and think of it as disposable might be the way to go...
