Is there a GOOD grease gun out there?

I haven't had a problem with grease guns, we use Deere pistol grip on the farm (don't know who really makes) and Lincoln battery ones at work. Our problem is the ends, a few years ago they would last years. This year it seems like we are replacing the coupler every few tubes of grease. Even with new zerks they don't seem to last, can't seem to build any pressure on hard to grease fittings. Fittings that grease easy with a new coupler next time 1/2 the grease slips out between the fitting and coupler. Anyone seem to have this issue, or what brand coupler are you using?

We have tried Deere, Lincoln, NAPA, True Value.

Thanks for the good info here! Major peeve of mine... Went thru 3 guns this year alone! Bought the best NAPA gun a month or so ago. So far - OK.

Buddy has a battery Lincoln, though. I used it when I had an excavator here for 10 days. (Man, those BIG machines need BIG amounts of grease!!)

$200 or so. Probably wait for the NAPA to die, first.

I have broke about every part on a gun this year, I have combined parts from half working guns but get so frustrated now if the gun fails it gets a one way ticket to as far as I can throw it......

I like the idea of a case and will try the Alemite or the Lincoln battery operated guns.

Thanks for the info

For general lubrication you can't beet a Lincoln pistol grip gun with a flex hose and Alemite couplers. This enables you to have one hand on the gun and another on the hose coupler. The hose and ends are items that must be replaced as needed. A lincoln lever gun with the ridgid tube is good for fittings that don't like to take grease. I also have a small tool you fill with grease and hit with a hammer to get tough fittings to take grease. The Lincoln battery gun is great if you are greasing a lot of fittings every day like a combine or other large machine. For the once a week or less user I would stick with a hand gun.

Do you have an internet link for the grease gun you hit with a hammer?

I go through allot of grease and tried quite a few of the air grease guns. I started out with Lincoln, but after taking the first one back, and then wearing out the second one in about six months, gave up on them. I tried two different brands from Northern Tool. They worked OK, but neither lasted very long. I bought the most expensive one that Sears sold and liked it for awhile, but then it stopped working and was always getting air locked. The Napa gun never worked from day one, so I took it back. I'm no longer buying from Napa, but it's not just the grease gun, their parts are never the right ones, or they are out of what I'm looking for.

After years of fighting the air hose and wasting hundreds of dollars on air guns, I've given up on all of them. I'm sure there are those out there that work fine, but I go through three to six tubes of grease in a day if I'm working with my Dad and we're running both the dozer and backhoe. Old equipment takes plenty of lubrication!!!

Currently I have three grease guns that I'm using. All are manual. The Walmart one works fine, but it's not as good as the two from Atwoods. Both of those are their premium manual lever grease guns. I have one with a flex tube and another with the solid tube. The Walmart gun has the solid tube and tends to go out in the field when I'm leaving the tractor there for the night.

I prefer the solid tube over the flexible tubes. You don't have to hold the tube and it's allot faster then messing with the flexible tube. For the few fittings that I cannot get to with the solid tube, I use the other grease gun.

I've found that it's faster to just manually pump grease my fittings then it is to get the hose and mess around with air locks on the air grease guns. I won't buy another air gun now that I've realized that I was creating more work and taking more time to use them.

I'm curious about the cordless, battery powered grease guns, but wonder if I'll actually save any time with them, or will they also be a hassle to keep working like the air guns are?

I know allot of guys who will spend days trying to find a shortcut, or an easier way to do something. When it's a tough task that needs doing, I just do it and get it over with in a day or even a few hours. It's painful, but always faster to just get it done. The same is true with greasing fittings. Just grab a manual gun and get it done. They always work, never have air pocket issues and are simple to operate.

My Dad uses 12 volt Lincoln on the farm and I use 12 volt Lincoln at work. After a few years, we had to replace 1 weak battery($65) at each location, but I wouldn't want to go back to a manual grease gun. We have be happy with these.

The cordless Lincolns are very good. Ive used them and the pneumatic lincoln bulk grease pumps (not the ones that go on the end of a air hose) at work and had really good results. The greasers run them 8Hrs a day without any problems.

If you operate a mulcher you must grease every day. It is a mess. Grease fittings usually must be dug out from under mud before greasing. Fooling around with a grease gun is no fun. I have slung a few as far as I could throw them hoping they would work when you pick them up.
Here is what I like about my Alemite battery operated. It comes in a hard case. You can carry extra grease, extra battery, Instruction manual is in case for trouble shooting if needed. Case can be wiped clean and carried in back seat. Most of all it has worked. Sounds like Lincoln battery operated are getting good results.
