3032E John Deere
I have a JD 3032E w hydrostatic drive that I'm having trouble hitching up my mower & tiller to the PTO. My previous tractor a hole through the shaft that you could turn the PTO to match up to your equipment. This one won't turn so I have to open the cover on my mower and move the belt or turn the blades on the tiller a little, then check the PTO and go back to the equipment and move more. Some times I'm trying to get things matched up for a while before I can slide the shaft on the PTO. I have a quick hitch on it because of the problems getting a tiller on my last tractor; now I can hitch it up quickly but now have the PTO attaching problem. Thanks Mary

On my JD CUTS, the pto shaft will rotate if you shut the tractor off.

It won't turn even if off. Maybe this 58 yr old doesn't have enough ump. Thanks Mary

Maybe the PTO shaft will turn with a little help from a large pair of pliers???

Mary,
If you have the IMatch quick hitch and Deere tiller, brush hog or rear finish mowers there is a quick hitch pto adaptor that can be installed. This works in conjunction with the quick hitch and allows easy hookup of both the hitch and pto without leaving the seat.

This is a link to the Deere IMatch AutoHitch shown on a 665 tiller.

This could be adapted to work with most implements of other brands with a little fabrication work too.

I had the same problem hooking up attachments with my tractor with independant PTO when I first got it.
Independant PTO's have a PTO brake that keeps them from turning when the PTO is turned off.
Made it very hard to line up the drive shaft splines when hooking up attachments.
I put an overrunning clutch on my pto (Paid around $55 at Tractor Supply).
It saves wear and tear on the PTO brake and it can be turned by hand making hooking up attachment drive shafts a whole lot easier.

This is what I was thinking also or maybe a short bar or tire iron stuck in the pto yoke to give you a little leverage to help turn it slightly? Make sure both splines are lube well also.

Thanks a lot. I tried the bar & I can't get enough leverage since I had a compound break in my wrist and back surgery to turn. We have a Tractor Supply here so I'll see if they have that. My local JD dealer hasn't been of help. They said the mower & tiller was greased up and ready to go. The grease guy couldn't get the door open on one side and didn't grease the bearings on one of the blades. I made them pick up the mower and replace the bearings. Thanks again. Mary

With physical problems I would look into the Auto Hitch for the quick hitch, this engages the pto driveline with the simple pull of a long lever. If you have Deere implements most have the option of this connection.

I'm not sure how that pto brake works, but have you tried putting the pto selector lever in another position........ Hmm, on your tractor there might not be one... Oops
