Is there an implement that can smooth roads and not load up?

Had the same problem with my LPGS. I had the blades sitting 1/4" below the skids. I pulled the blades up so they are flush with the skids. After I have the road surface refinished I extend the top link so the front blade is an inch or two off the ground and the front cutting edge of the rear blade is about 1/4"-1/2" off the ground.

I then grab the pile of material and start slowly making a final run. The box won't fill up, and going slow allows the material to pass under the front of the rear blade and be smoothed by the back of it.

Couple passes like that and problem solved.

I use a simple 7" landscape rake with rear wheels. Have about a 1/2 mile driveway.
After a rain when needed i will make a angle pass on both sides bringing the gravel to the middle
Last pass straight blade and right down the middle.

It works really well for me
I dont take much of a cut... just enough to keep the rake loaded. Also run slow to keep the rake from bouncing.
Also works great on keeping the weeds down.

Got rid of the box cutter. Just didnt have a need for it

While my LPGS makes quick work of smoothing out my road, the issue I have is that. It makes it too smooth.. It has no pitch and tends to allow puddling to occur as soon as it rains. Which leads to pot holes ..which leads to grading it again..which leads to repeat the above.

I have 40' very heavy chain attached to my box scraper at both ends makes look like I hand rake it.

If your LPGS is more than a tiny bit wider than half your driveway, it will keep removing the crown, especially if you make a center pass. Re-establish the crown with a rear blade, then keep the
LPGS off the center.
