Is there anything lower than a thief?

I own guns, but I store them in a large, heavy ex-jeweler's safe that require a thief to bring a crane and tow truck to steal.

While there is no current law(s) requiring a gunowner to store firearms in a safe (to my knowledge), I believe this is the most reasonably prudent thing to do. In fact, I would not be surprised to learn of court cases in the future that hold gunowners at least partially negligent in cases such as are the topic of this post.

So you have the right to bear arms but only in a safe?

Eddie,
I had a demonstration of a Ft. Knox safe at one of the dealers. In fact they only went into a certain amount of detail, refusing to discuss other details. While I agree that no safe is 100% effective, I'd be surprised if even an experienced and prepared thief can get into one of those safes in any reasonable amount of time (I'm thinking hours). IMO, the only way someone would get into them is if they are a true professional at safe cracking.

If someone has a professional safe cracker visiting their house when they're away, then they've been a little too loose lipped about what they own and where they store it. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

( So you have the right to bear arms but only in a safe? )

Profound statement! I guess the word bear arms is not part of the second ammendment. In Kalifornia, they changed the Bill of Rights to state, "You have the right to keep arms in a California certified safe." /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I can't believe people sacrifice their rights for false security. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Let me clarify that statement... People allow laws to pass that infringe on personal freedoms thinking it will make them safer from criminals.

( The better gun safes can be anchored to the floor, walls, and/or ceilings in such a way that the anchors can only be accessed from inside the safe. Mine also weigh 1200lbs.

Ya, but I go back to my earlier statements, enough fustration sets in because of the added security and more dramatic actions are taken by the theives.

I'd rather loose a little, than a lot. Too much security and they think they will be getting something really good.

It is a mind game. On one break-in we had, toilet paper was set out in the living room and a lot of it (tp) was stolen. Figure that out. Yes, I kept track of my rolls......
