Oh, there's a pretty long list of "usual suspects" in our area. Meth manufacture and use has gotten really bad. I can identify at least 5 individuals currently living within 2 miles of my house that have been convicted of drug charges. One of those burned his house down when his meth lab exploded.

One problem I have is that I'm very near the line between two counties. As such, we really don't get much attention from either county's sheriff's office. This is an election year. Maybe we'll get a new sheriff with the intestinal fortitude to do something about the meth problem. Though, I can't place all of the blame on the sheriff's office. We also need laws/judges that will come down hard on the meth-heads. All five of the aforementioned culprits have had multiple "slaps on the wrist" for various violations. Yet, they're still out there presumably manufacturing/using.

Sorry to hear this. I can understand how you feel. I was at my property this last weekend. I discovered part of my cattle chute was missing /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Can you believe that? Someone actually took it probably just for the lumber. This is a landmark at the entrance to my property. They cut it off from it's base with I guess.. a chain saw and removed the nice chunks of lumber. How low can that be? I wish I knew who did that.

I live on a dead-end street in a small neighborhood surrounded by pastures. I learned the other week that 3 large tracts nearby have been sold to developers. One of the tracts that sold is zoned high density. I hope they don't put up apartments there. I'll be peeved. I also learned that the county plans to run a 4-lane road nearby and join our road to one of the farm to market roads, ceasing to be a dead-end. I'll probably need to start worrying about security a bit more when that all happens.

FWIW: My neighbors son across the street is in prison right now for methamphetamines and parole violations. He's 53 years old and can't get away from that crap. Personally, I hope he stays in prison for a good while, I don't want him around.

Meth is everywhere.

Until we take that bull by the horns and DEAL with it, we are in a steady, rapid slide into a two-class system: Those have stuff, and those who steal from them.

Is the neihborhood you live in so dangerous as to actually warrant your wife needing to carry a loaded shotgun from room to room? My wife thinks I am paranoid because I keep my ninja sword next to my easy chair! I just want something handy but I can't see walking around with a loaded gun in my house. I could never suggest my wife did. I showed her how to shoot the .357. I showed her where I keep it loaded. Any thing past that is up to her. Did your wife feel unsafe before you came along? From your post I take it she did not have any gun experience before. We have pepper spray here and there also. I am rarely away from home at night. Pheasant hunting is about the only thing that keeps me away......I originally had a different style of responding to your post but Bird deleted it. If you read it and found it offensive in any way I am sorry. To me it was just discussion.
