hey have it on the net for 329+- but I just got a catalog with it for 299

You'll get lots of responses on this, I think. It looks like an oil-less design, which are generally louder than oil-filled compressors, and require periodic rebuilding. I bought a unit with similar capacities (Husky) that was oil-filled. It is much quieter than the oil-less compressors I have heard and runs about $369.

If you don't mind the extra noise, I'm sure that unit will run a paint gun and all sorts of other things. I love having a compressor available. It is so handy.

I purchased this Sears 60 gallon standalone compressor. I got it at the store, on sale, and used my Craftsman Club discount plus a one day 10% off discount plus another discount coupon I had. Total came to $345. I have no complaints concerning its operation.

Bear in mind that the 6hp is a phoney peak hp rating. There has been a class action lawsuit about this in the small portable compressors but I don't think Sears was a party to it. The "real" hp is probably 1.5 to 2. I don't remember what the ratio is.

Well my old little pancake sear compressor gave up after only 15 years of abuse I mean use.
Anyhow I have to replace it and may have/wamt to repait my 78 chevy truck so I want one that is up to running a DA sander and a paint gun and so on

I bought basically this same compressor almost 2 years ago, except that I got the horizontal tank. Easier to move it around. I've had no problems with it, except the drain valve leaking off. Sears immediately sent out a new one, I've since replace that with a ball valve to allow for easier draining as well as faster draining, it seems to remove more moisture. I use a palm nailer, framing nailer, 3/8" impact, 1/2" impact, 3/8" rachet, brad nailer, and a pneumatic grease gun. Dad even used to with a die grinder a couple of times when we were doing something. I think he had to stop a time or two because the pressure had dropped, but nothing terrible. It has been a great asset to have around the house. Would I want to run a tire business or a body shop on this compressor? No, but for average home use it is a great little unit. As far as noise, my oil-less isn't any louder then my F-I-L 's oil compressor (brand unknown).

We bought an upright 60 gallon CH w 5hp motor at TSC for 37x.00

I've seen imports at the chineese store for a tad cheaper.

Homier traveling show sometimes has a 299 one.

BTW, I think between coupons & % offs, we were able to get my for around $230 at the time. Wife is really good at working deals between coupons and such.

Running DA's or any other type of air tools requires a lot of air. I've tried the 5hp 30 gallon type with no success. You will need a two stage unit if you are going to be using air tools for any long amount of time. The smaller compressors have a lousy recovery rate. You can check the rates by comparing the tools to the rate of the compressor. I now have two large compressors. One for my barn next door and one in my garage at home. The Garage has a vertical 6HP 80 gallon two stage from BJ's Discount. The barn compressor is a much older rebuilt American Kellog 5HP 80 gallon horizontal that wieghts about 700 pounds or more. It is also a two stage with cooling lines and an enormous motor. I think the BJ's one cost me around $800.00. I have it set at 175psi. It is 200 psi rated. It never runs out of air no matter what tools I run with it. The barn compressor is an industrial unit that I paid $700.00 for back in 1978. The compressor head and motor were just rebuilt on it before I bought it. This unit is twice that of the BJ's unit in power and recovery rate. Both units have been trouble free since I bought them. Go bigger than what you think you will need. You can't go wrong that way.

I have the horizontal Sears one also, and have been very happy with it. I just use it for repairs around the farm, but I also used it to run a framing nailer on building an extension on my house, and it ran perfectly. With moderate use, I've never had a problem with it. I've had it for three years.
