Haven't heard back from him again yet. Says he's in the process of moving and won't be available to show it until next week. Still sounds kinda fishy, but we'll see what happens.

Still no word back from the guy. Starting to sound more and more fishy. I just don't understand what anyone gains by doing that. . . .

Or he could really be busy and really be moving house holds. I have done this 3 times in the last 5 years it takes all weekend, if you get a call from an unknown # the last thing on your mind is to call them back or answer. Also think about that. If you ever see the thing and in person the tractor is not right then be suspicious, you never know. I had a guy that was buying my little jon boat the whole thing was weird, he and a buddy came to look at it, said it was the best they had seen and were real interested, a week passes or so and nothing, i call him and he says yea still interested. Thing was he was in college and his dad was financing the whole thing and they had to hash it out, i was not let in on this till late and then his dad had to see it ( i dont know why he was no boat person and really had no idea about anything). Long story short i met his dad and he bought the boat about 1.5-2 weeks after we first talked.

you never know.

I also saw the same ad last night on CL. I'd say if it runs well enough to not hear any major engine damage, and he's already saying OBO in the ad, it's worth looking into. If it was closer to me, I'd look at it on speculation. I know enough decent diesel mechanics that do a bit of work on the side, that we could get it going if an injector is all it truly needs. A general inspection of the tractor will tell you if it's been abused; water in the oil; oil in the water; cylinder head or block showing signs of overheating.

Heck, if you know a mechanic that will make the trip with you, you may be able to get a mechanical appraisal on the spot. Might be the cheapest $50-$100 bucks you'd spend.

Yes, he COULD be doing all that, but point being if you are going to try to sell something and take the time to post it out on CL, then you should at very least check your email once a day and respond to the inquiries. I don't have a phone number for him, no calls from an unknown number, I asked him for one and haven't got a response.

I've moved before too. Yeah, it takes a while and you don't want to return calls, but DON'T put something up for sale if you aren't going to take calls or answer email.

At best the guy has terrible timing and lacks common courtesy. At worst... who knows? If the tractor does exist then yes, it would be worth looking at, but it's beginning to look at lot like it may not.

Just don't get your hopes up!! He may just be looking for a mark that he can scam and gets all excited because he believes the ad and will send his money first. :licking:

Very true, he might be. Going to have to look elsewhere though, I don't buy anything like that unless I can hear/see it run first. I'm not too worried about it anyway, I don't want the tractor. Just trying to help out a friend.

Just saw this on Craigslist, and I know about the horror stories with CL, but my neighbor is looking for a little tractor to do some light mowing with.

The fuel injector thing scares me a bit, but I'll be the first to tell you I know absolutely nothing about these tractors. Just for comparison a 8n with mower on it is about $2500 around here right now, so the price is right, just don't know enough about them to tell him anything.

Yanmar 2210 Tractor with 5' mower

If I lived within 100 miles of that tractor I would get location and with my trailer, I would go look at it. You can't go wrong. I check things within driving range on Craigslist all the time .
