Deer flies bite, at least they do in Alaska.

In all the years I lived in Alaska, I never even saw a deer fly, let alone got bit by one!

I did see plenty of horse flies though!

Deer fly/horse fly - both bite, eat meat & suck up blood. You should be so lucky to have something that does none of that.

From my years in Alaska - I don't think there was any kind of flying thing that didn't bite, chomp on you or suck blood.
