Is this a war on cash or a war on privacy? Or both?

I did some research, and found other institutions apparently beat Wells Fargo to the punch regarding this policy. I read that Bank of America has long required ID for a cash deposit, also Chase Bank and others.

Oddly, I also found a complaint that Bank of America will allow ... someone ... with a foreign-issued ID to open a bank account and deposit cash, but won't accept cash from it's long term regular customer without showing a US government issued photo ID.

I was in NYC recently and asked a WF Teller to break a 100. They asked me if I had a WF account, and wanted Photo ID. I said, yes, multiples of both and left. LOL.

Very overly dramatic, Moss.

.

Over 5300 of their employees created 1.5 million unauthorized bank accounts on their customers and over 500,000 unauthorized credit card accounts on their customers. They sold them products without their knowledge. That's pretty dramatic.

Perhaps you would consider starting a new thread ...

Why? Wells Fargo is requiring ID for cash transactions. People don't like it. Stop doing business with them or do it the way they want. That's the choices.

Disregarding their criminal activity is just icing on the cake.

Methinks John Grisham used them for inspiration for a compelling sub plot in his book 'The Rooster Bar'...!

Where I bank, I need a client card to even change a 20 for 4 5's.

I need to enter my PIN to deposit a govt pension check, again to pay my phone bill, again to pay hydro and then again to take out, say, $200 in cash.
All with same teller at same time.

Now recently I need to select what transaction at a wicket and take a number like at the meat counter.
They then have you sit in a waiting area and flash your number to indicate which teller will serve U.
Like client # 234 go to teller #5.

Last time since there was nobody waiting so I simply went to the closest teller but gosh you'd of thought I was a hold up artist.
Some burly guy ran up to me and insisted I take a number and select what transaction I wanted to do.

Making more insult not long ago I was in Cosco with a friend and used my bank card to pay for his purchase, (a TV over $1000.)
My card was refused! Clerk said "try $999." and that worked fine, but the fact is that I had a much higher limit set up when I set up the acct.
The bank, without any warning, simply lowered my limit. Very embarrassing.
They said it was for my protection!

Just about every retail debit card reader only requires one swipe or even one scan to read a card but that bank wants 5 PIN entries for 5 transactions!

Now at present time I have a few postdated outstanding checks (taxes) but as soon as they clear I am dropping that bank.

Good examples of a bank saying "Don't come in to the branch".

Maybe they'd be happier if we just moved off-shore ?

Their image is shot. Quite a few "executives" should be in jail over their activities. To include fraudulent lending and deceitful billing practices.

Well I have several other alternatives i do business with that I can go to if WF goes under but I see it as a non-issue. They have been good to do business with from my standpoint for over 25 years.

From what I’ve read about the problems with WF I’d say they had some people working there who probably should go to jail. They aren’t the only place that has people who will do something wrong for their own gain. I’m pretty sure WF will be just fine after this gets corrected and some new people get in place.
