Is This Overkill?

This being the first winter with my TC-30, and seeing as I have a long (2000' +) and steep driveway, I decided to put chains on all around in case I needed to dig out of big snows. Otherwise I plow it with my truck. Think it unnecessary? What does everyone else do? Happy Holidays to all.

I was wondering if your driveway is paved the whole way? I have a tc24 and thinking of chains, but I am afraid of them digging up the driveway. How has it gone so far?

Dave, my driveway is partially paved but I just got the chains on after the last snow so I don't know. A friend has pavement that he has used chains on for some years and they did leave marks but didn't tear up the pavement.

Looks like it will definitely get the job done! As long as you've aired the tires down a couple of psi and your driveway is nice and cold (it should be if it's covered with snow) you probably won't have to worry. Just try and not do any standing lock-to-lock turns with a full load of snow - that'll probably dig a hole in the asphault. How new is the driveway? They tend to take a few years to really cure to the point where they're indestructible.

I was told by my dealer NOT to put chains on the front wheels. I can only assume this is to reduce high loads to the transfer case, though there may be other reasons.. I have pretty rugged chains on my rears only, and have yet to have a significant problem pushing my blower up my 30% road.

Pushing the loader on the ground is cake, though it really resists steering imputs moving forward. Moving backwards, with the blower down, I get much better control for some reason.

After my recent experience clearing up after a Nor'easter with my TC-35D with 7' plow on the 16LA loader arms. I would say I don't think I'm going to need chains. I have a lot (over half mile) of driveway and it's not straight and it's not flat. But I'm doing OK with just R4s.

I dug some really deep snow out here in Ohio last year. Had to use the FEL it was so deep... Never used chains on my turf tires as I just dug a little and moved a little... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nah, it's not too big, it's just right!

You have a 60 on a class III? Isn't that a little narrow? My 74 is just barely wider than my rear tires..
