Is this the starter or solenoid?

My JD 1070 acted EXACTLY the same. Turns out is a relatively common problem easily solved by replacing the solenoid contacts. Got mine from ebay for under $15.

I've posted the pictures of the parts to change and the symptoms and procedure in previous posts that should be searchable.

zz that would work except his is direct drive not gear reducted that is the most common failure on the gear reducted units can easily be fixed now back to the original starter a company named db electrical has this unit new number 16608-m127 which means it is a small body starter but same cranking power as large it is 111.00 including shipping good luck
