I don't see it as being any different than the EPA last year trying to regulate and tax cattle farmers on the amount of methane comming out of the south end of a north bound cow. EPA 'Cow Tax' Could Charge $175 per Dairy Cow to Curb Greenhouse Gases

Both are totally rediculess!

Agreed, the NAIS is not exactly pro farmer either. Now all we have to do is start NPIS.(national politician identification system) Then we could put that Politician's head in a cow's south bound end,to log all the methane produced in a ten hour period.

I think states should subject all tractor and trailers to the same rules, laws and regulation regardless of who they are owned by. I personally do not think just because a Tractor and Trailer is owned by a person engaged in agricultural activities it should be exempt from laws, rules and regulations that non farm related owners have to obey.

Have you ever met a speeding tractor and trailer loaded with grain on a narrow road and the driver looks to be every day of sixteen.

I don't know about other states, but here in Washington they are not exempt...they simply come under a different set of regulations. Here, I can't hop on the tractor just to run to town or even go to the gas station. It must be between farms with no stops and at a maximum distance of 5 miles. If I were to run the mile and a half up the road to the gas station to fuel up the tractor, I can be sited with some major fines.

If it applies to someone just crossing the road from one part of the farm to the other, it's just plain burdensome. So the 17 YO is supposed to get off the tractor and let an older person drive it across the highway to the other part of the farm?

Now the issue that bothers me is when someone gets their tractor in the mud and then drives it on the main road leaving a trail of dirt clods and gravel for half a mile to break windshields.

Farm Tractor= Designed for use in an agricultural environment.

Road Tractor = Designed for transporting goods or products from point A to B.

I think the laws being enacted refer to .....Road Tractors......

I hope you are right but this article from a local paper sites trucks and farm tractors: More to plow through - Washington Greene PA News - www.observer-reporter.com ...... As far as the logs,it does not make sense to keep a log on a farm tractor,so ma-be it is for keeping a log on trucks used for agriculture purposes. I use to have a sticker on a truck for farm use. I was not allowed to go over 12 miles, unless it was to another farm I owned, and could not run at night. This could be for farm trucks that are licensed and plated for farm use. I see from the article Kays Supply put up that the distance has been increased to 25 miles.
