The potential danger is only there when using any tractor outside it's intended purpose, Besides adding a PTO Safety shield and ROPS, and because I Do use my tractor outside it's intended purpose, I found I needed to do many modifications to make it More Safe to use the way I needed to use the tractor,
Our YM's are great for the average gardening tasks, But as you mentioned when needing to take into the woods to thin undergrowth or bushog fields etc, etc, there are precautionary measure to take, Needing to setup the tractor for these uses, Flipping/reversing the wheels help provide a wider more stable footprint, which is needed when maneuvering in terrain that is more than flat, I also found that using a wider front wheel/tire helps to prevent falling off into a rotted tree stump hole, The narrow ribbed AG tires can fall into them unexpectedly and snatch the steering wheel, and that can hurt a tad bit, The larger tire can roll on over the hole more easily,
There have been many things I found to do to my ym1700 that makes it more usable outside it's intended purpose,
I really should have gotten me a Bobcat-skid loader instead
