I have to admit mine is a toy. No, I don't have to have it. No, I don't need it. Yes, I could have hired all the work it's done for me.

Still, I enjoy playing with it too much to call it a tool. You know what? I don't feel one bit guilty either. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yes !

At times I consider my tractor a diesel powered theraputic device. Yes we have done a ton of work with it, and yes it continues to be a great help, but there's nothing like an hour of brush-hogging to clear the mind of the days headaches. I have the advantage of a home office so when the stuff hits the fan, I start up the NH and push over some trees /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Great stress reliever.

I consider all my tools as toys. The tractor exspecially so. There are days when 10/12 hours are spent on it excepting fuel/grease stops and calls of nature. The sound of a diesel is intocicating.

Sounds like time for another thread:

When does a tool become a toy??? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But now that you bring it up, I can't think of one time I used my tractors just for fun.

Granted, I have a lot of fun and enjoyment getting things done I could not easily do without the tractor...but I have never just got on it to take a ride for the sake of a ride, like I might do on a motorcycle, or bicycle or even in my van.

My younger daughter even coined the term "perma grin" after watching me work the tractor a while... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I enjoy using it, love the results, and even want to start waxing it (them) this year...but toys? No, I don't have that feeling at all.

Tools that make me smile and grin, that's what mine are! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

No doubt about it! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Of course it's a toy, what else could be this much fun. At the same time though, it's a powerful tool. No way could I get as much done without it. Maybe it's a toyl /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Tools, tractors, toys aren't they all the same?

I know that basically a tractor is meant for hard work and I make it earn it's keep so it certainly qualifies as a tool. Yet, when I get on my tractor I always get a big smile on my face, and I enjoy the time spent, so isn't it considered a toy?

If you get out of bed each day and go to work at a job that really excites you, and you are good at what you do how can that be bad? That is exactly how I feel whenever I'm working with my New Holland.

Chim:

When I'm out at the "Farm" I take the little tractor for a warm up ride on the woods trails. After that everythings ready to go to work.

Initially, a toy...you know the feeling when the tractor gets delivered...

However, I bought the machine after a blizzard (10 or 12 inches) blocked us in our drive. That episode, and when the Wheel horse lawn tractor gave it up, indicated the need for a more powerful machine.
Now, it's an enjoyable machine to operate...but it's strictly a tool.
