Is your tractor a tool or toy?

Unfortunately, I made a major error! Somehow, my spouse figured out that I do enjoy using it. Now nothing I do with it counts as "work" when we're dividing up the chores. ("You've been out on the tractor all day, when are you going to come in and help clean the basement?")

For those of you that blew it the first time around I'll repeat this very important step again for you. After working on the tractor for long periods of time, don't go back in the house with a smile on your face. if you do your wife will figure it out from there on her own. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif If she does then you brought the wrath of Kahn on yourself and there is nothing further that any of your buddies can do for you here at TBN.

That's right Mike. My tractor is a tool, period. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

"The transition ... coincides with when I stopped worrying about how clean it was or babying it during use and instead started pushing it as hard as it would go and would leave it parked outside covered in mud."

Marvelous insight!!! The definitive "Litmus Test" to assess just how you really view your Tractor/Toy/Tool. Bravo, Rick!!!

(The first time I got my BX23 really dirty, I stood back and looked at it, and I knew it was up to the job I wanted it to do. Before then, I really wasn't sure.)

> ... a diesel powered theraputic device

I agree whole heartedly with this statement.

It doesn't matter what you call it... When it comes to re-adjusting my attitude, all the psychotherapy in the world is not as effective as a few hours spent moving dirt and rocks! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My tractor is definately used as a tool, but is usually fun to use. The best of both worlds.

My tractor is a huge tool that does the work it was intended to do when I got it -- that is to cut my 50 acres every 2-3 weeks during the growing season.

Now my Bobcat Skid steer -- that question is still up for debate! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This thread is starting to sound like the old military cadence... "This is my rifle...this is my gun...this is for fighting..."

Well fella's this one hits home big time for me, I am really feeling guilt pang's here, I have only 5 acre's and an old massey 135 that runs great but ,I bought a new 1433v with loader and the wife's blessing's so when it came to moving snow I would be able too! (The 135 has diamond turfs that won't go anywhere in the snow and chains won't fit between the tire and fenders, also didn't want to scar-up over 300' of asphalt driveway with chain), So long story is bought new 1433v 4wd with loader (BIG TOY)Wife likes it though so I guess it's okay to keep both (restore 135 and use 1433v) but don't really need both must be a swing from muscle cars(70 chevelle 454 to diesel muscle) Just feeling guilty about the money I guess? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gifThe thing is I like using my old 135 for most jobs ,seat sits lower, rides smoother due to lower pressure in the tires

Long time lurker, first time poster...

My 4310 was procured in November 2003. I bought it with the intention of working my new 10.62 acres. I figured with the 3 acre pond and all, I'd need a tool to get the work all done.

Boy was I wrong, every stinkin' time I get on my "machine" (as the old folks used to call everything with a motor) the smile on my face let's the wife know that I am enjoying this tractor thingy way too much!

My job can be pretty stressful, but TractorTime melts it all away...mine is simply a Tooloy.
