I don't know if you still want to know what the levers are for or not, but they are layed out in the image above. There was one lever that I didn't note because I wan't positive about it. I believe that it is for the PTO speed selection. One of the other guys will be able to tell you for sure.

JerryG, thanks for the info. I was able to put it through it's paces when I was up there and you nailed them all. I think the one you labled PTO engagement was labeled 4WD on the tractor I drove though. I don't remember for sure though. And the one you left unlabeled was the PTO speed selection.

Thanks for the info. And for cutting me some slack. Makes perfect sense when put like that.

As to why the guy here by me is advertising them the way he is, I don't know. Maybe dishonest, again, I don't know. Based on my two very short dealings with him I'd say it's not that. More just a lack of knowledge.

While that is not neccesarily a good thing I don't think it is a mark of a snake in and of itself. Like I said, I'm going to have to take a gamble regardless of what I choose to do.

That's right. I was going from when I had my MF 1250. Memory doesn't always work right.

I know I sound harsh but I deal with this everyday. I have dealers around me that wouldn’t tell the truth if you put a gun to their heads. Horsepower is always high, tractor is always a 1990 or newer model no matter what hp it really is or what year it was actually made. When the customers come to the lot they are adamant that I am wrong when I say 13hp and 1970. I can show them the tech manual and still they wont believe it. One day I just realized that people believe what they want to believe regardless of reality.

This is the problem. If it bites them in the a*s (it almost always does) then they start shooting the blame shotgun. They never go after the idiot they bought the tractor from they come here and scream "grey mkt tractors are CRAP!!" Any dealer on this board knows exactly what I am talking about. Why do you think Vietnam rebuild dealers are so prevalent? They are rarely if ever blamed for the crap they sell. The company itself, Yanmar, Shibaura ect gets blamed for building a “junk” product. I will be happy to show you the posts here to back me up. Why wont they blame the dealer...because they would have to admit they made a mistake not only that, but deep down they new it was a mistake.

We all see the guys selling tractors who have no intentions of supporting them. How do I know this guy wont support this tractor? He cant, he hasn’t even taken the time to know what hp it is (which is in black and white in every manual I have) how could he possibly be able to help you when it breaks down. My bet is the first breakdown we will be the expected support, right? If you were buying a YM1500 no biggie there are lots of people who can help but your looking at the extremes from Japan and not simple cheep tractors either.

I am so used to reading posts about people asking “who is a good dealer?”, “who can I trust?”, “how do I know a good dealer from a bad one?” or “if he was a good dealer he would do this” ect. I couldn’t understand why you would buy from someone who is so purposefully ignorant about his product. I realize now that you put no value in the dealer as part of the purchase price and your just looking for the newest, latest, and cheapest. That is absolutely OK. That is how I bought my first tractor, actually I was looking for the cheapest, simplest but I do understand. The guy I bought my first tractor from washed his hands of it and me the minute I drove away and that was OK with me because I new I could fix or repair anything without help from anybody. At the time I had more skill than money. Since there are only a couple of us that have ever worked on a GL21 past changing the oil when it breaks down you are now the expert and it sounds to me like you are willing to be the expert on this model. That is OK also, personal responsibility is rare. I am not used to seeing it.

As far as the snake comment, that is a no brainer. If you bought a TV from Best Buy and it was advertised as 41” and you got it home and it was 31” I doubt you would let that pass. When you took it back and they said, “well that is what I was told” I still doubt you would let that pass. True ignorance is one thing but his is a conscious ignorance. It isn’t just tractors, he sells Kubota engines at 40 to 60 percent higher hp ratings than the factory hp rating. One 2 min phone call to Kubota and he would know the exact hp, that is what I do. One thing is for sure the ignorance will always be in his favor not the other way around. So I stand behind my comment. He is always welcome to come to this board and put me in my place.

I am planning to buy the tractor with the intention of me or a capable friend being able to work on it. Yes, I might need help getting parts from time to time and I will probably come here among other places.

No. I will not blame anyone but myself if it blows up in my face. Now if someone is able to provide me with the products/services I need and regularly does to others with no problems but refuses me then yea, I got a problem. I'm pretty handy with a wrench, I was a maint. tech for 3 years and I have studied mechanical technology in general ever since High School. I get off on the stuff. I'm no diesel mechanic so I might come asking questions from time to time too. I have a couple of friends who are diesel mechanics for local JD delaers. Had I bought from Wayne at LMTC then I would hope and expect he would support it, same for you if I lived wihtin your service area. Since I didn't I don't. I'm sorry you have had so many bad dealings with people who don't want to admit when they are wrong.

In all honesty, I don't care what the engine HP is. I have only been at this for a couple of months but I have learned real quick that PTO HP is king and I know that it is 21 HP +/-. That's what I need for my circumstances.

Looking for the newest, latest, cheapest. You say that like it's a bad thing? Aren't we all? Yea, I want a mechanically good tractor that is going to last me a long time. What's wrong with wanting a newer one if they are available and the price is right? Why do you have two AF's on your yard? Yanmar made YM's that were as powerful as those two didn't they (even the F's or FX's)? No need for the AF's then, right? I'm not trying to be ignorant, just asking. Don't fault me for wanting something newer. Cheaper, no it's not really.

Anyway, like I told you when I was trying to talk you into selling me the AF33D you have, I have no intention of blaming anyone for something I bring on myself. I wasn't raised that way and my children are taught to take responsibilty for their actions too.

I have always liked having different and non-typical stuff, not because other people see it, I could care less about that too. I like to learn. I figure the older stuff is nailed down on most accounts. If something goes wrong on the GL then yea I might be out for a while until I get he parts/info I need but in 10 years if they (or any newer model today) are prevalent me and others like me will be the "experts". The only thing I like more than learning is helping others who want to learn too.

Anyway, thanks for the follow up and I hope there truly are no hard feelings. If my furnace wouldn't have broken 3 weeks ago I would be on my way out to your place to beg you to sell me that AF33D. It's more tractor than I need but if I had the money I'd buy it anyway. If you want to drop the price and and sell to someone outside your area let me know. I guess I'm just at the point where I NEED a tractor and if I'm going to spend this kind of money I'm getting what I like too. It seems to be a good tractor at a good price. Exactly what I'm looking for at the same price as a YM2210D. Not that there is a **** thing wrong with that model. I was 5 minutes from calling Wayne and starting the paperwork about 5 different times but I kept telling myself it wasn't the tractor I really wanted. Isn't that what everyone on here preaches? Get the best tractor you can for the money and don't be rushed? I think I have followed that moniker pretty well. I've been reading and learning about tractors since last November, not long compared to some but considering I wanted to buy the first week I started looking at them and I have NO previous tractor experience/knowledge I'd say I've been pretty patient. And what is "best" for one guy may not be for the next. As I learned more about the tractors (and actually drove a couple) I began to rethink some of my requirements and I started looking at the ones with power steering, open decks and 3 cylinder engines among other things.

okay enough from me. Thanks for all your help, whether you know it or not you have helped me reach the decision I have. If it goes wrong though, you bear no responsibility, no one does but me.

I'll post pics and initial impressions in a couple of weeks for anyone interested.
