I have 5 of these trucks currently none are running but could be with a little time spent they were my fleet vehicles and we have moved on to other things they have been sitting for a while I will take 2000.00 for all of them or make me and offer if you just want one or two give me a call to come and take a look you can reach me at 317-401-0005 thanks and have a great day!

You must not drive them much, as in you have a company truck or another commuter car, thats not many miles for the age? Since 1981 thats only (forgetting that the rabbit is 2 years older and was driven for those 2 years) 20 miles a day. Or thats 7,333 miles on both combined a year. Or somewhere around 3600 miles each a year. I use to drive this in a month when i first started working!! That would be no trips in it and assuming you drive just as far every saturday and sunday and you do in the week. How is this posssible? I have 205K on my 1997 saturn and 285K on my 1990 ranger that i got around 150K and put the rest of the miles on in the next 7 years. It mostly sits except hunting and garbage runs etc now, so its not ticking to many now a days but the saturn is the primary car.

There are many ways to have such low mileages on older vehicles.
If those were the only 2 vehices I owned you might have a poimt,but
1-Consider over the years from 1979 to now I have purchased more vehicles.
2-My mileages are now spread out among other cars.
3-As one gets older Ive notices less desire to drive all the time like i used to.
So Some cars I drive 100 mikes a year some more.
There are more ways ,but I dont think Ineed to list them.
That is how its possible.

I have a gas 81 4x4 Luv. Right at about 120k miles. Still runs like a top. Avg about 25-30 mpg. On a long haul itll do about 33mpg on highway only.

Ok I was thinking these were your commuter cars for say 10+ years or so. Not many folks will just keep stuff around for 10-20 years after they quit driving them regular.
I also have multiple vehicles. Its just the wife and i and we have 4. A 1980 K10 i use to tow with, my 1990 ranger for a good mileage truck, my saturn that has a salvage title but still great shape. We kept this as it was not worth selling when we bought her a newer car. I now drive the Saturn daily as a commuter car to save on gas, thus my ranger sits mostly now.

I have the original 1984 s-10 isuzu diesel truck at my home. 200k miles ,5sp OD transmission is bad, been sitting for 5 years. engine was great 62 hp, ..$750 dollars and it is yours, I will help load it on your trailor. Q? pm me. Jy.

Both Nissan and IH scout II used a version of the in-line 6 that was similar but a diesel version of the in-line 6 used in the 240 or 260 Z. The Nissan Maxima was the top pf the line and it got between 45 and 50 mpg but the drive-train had trouble taking the torque. The one I was familiar with had a 5 speed manual and I don't recall it being available in an automatic and it was not anemic at all. I don't know about the IHC Scout II with the in-line 6 diesel because the IHC Scout II was one heavy vehicle.
The foreign diesel engines (and improperly matched drive trains) brought in to the American market during that time period whether it be in a foreign auto or an american auto had design problems and owners that often lacked knowledge of the needs of diesels. Many thought because the engines did not have spark plugs that diesel required less observation and maintenance and owner knowledge. And to memory diesel was way cheaper than gas and cost / mile was justified if you did not have any high repair costs or need to haul or pull anything real heavy real fast. I recall looking at an escort diesel that had overheated and had a warped head, was blowing bubbles in the radiator overflow recovery tank. To memory the heat sensor for the temperature indication was on or near the top of the engine so any coolant leak that occurred at a small rate over a period of time would appear like a cycling thermostat until the water got so low as to not be in contact other than by steam showing a false near normal temperature by dash indication and by that time if operation continued there was basically only steam cooling of the upper engine and the area where the heat sensor was located and inadequate liquid coolant to protect the engine head and eventually the block.
Several of the engines were so anemic, especially in the earlier trucks (nissan 4 cyl among the worst) ranging from 38 to 50hp until in the latter year or two Isuzu turbo charged their engines.
The earlier GM diesels gave good mileage but typically poor power. The later GM diesels (before the Isuzu V8) gave good mileage and acceptable power, trouble is the drive-train transmission often had trouble handling the torque. Eventually all diesel engines in anything less than commercial rigs began to get bad raps, even volvo and Mercedes sales in diesel took a dive especially when fuel prices increased and then accompanied by increased maintenance care costs. In general sot American drivers that bought anything other than a Mercedes, Volvo or possibly a Peugeot diesel sedan were not likely to have good returns unless they became educated on the needs of diesel engine care and maintenance. Specifically special oils, fuel and filters for oil and fuel and air and recognizing that the engines were meant to be used frequently.
Dailmer Chrysler / Jeep were to put a Mercedes 5 cylinder diesel in the small jeep, Liberty I believe but I don't know if it ever happened.
I too would love to see and think it could be done, an efficient diesel in a mid size to full size 1/2 ton pickup. But with the cost of diesel fuel, diesel oil changes and maintenance of diesels and the improvements in direct injection gas engines (if they prove themselves) power and fuel economy I will be surprised in diesel makes a come back in those areas with the increasing restrictions being placed on diesel emissions.

While the rest of the 3rd world countries thrive on cheap diesel and run terribly in-efficient polluting old as well as new diesel cars and trucks, often being built in a country with tighter emission standards than our country, at a lower initial and ongoing cost than north America probably. What happened to our manufacturing infrastructure after WWII, Korea, Vietnam? I am only 55 and know much just from reading, watching Public Broadcasting, Smithsonian, History Channel and Military channel but I am sure there are many that are only a few years older that know much more.

The Jeep deisel is a reality, in every country but ours! EPA restrictictions keep it from being availible here. Sort of like all other countries still can buy toyota Hilux or toyota pickups in deisels.
