My neighbor, who is a complete and total tool, this year has cut his grass only when it has been or is raining and usually at 6 am. We have had more rain this year than in recent past and with the exception of the last time the grass has always been soaked. The last time he cut was two weeks ago, actually not raining for a change but still wet, when his mower gave it up. He was about half done and has not done a thing about his yard since or near as I can tell his mower either and things are beginning to get deep.

I will be/must mow today, highs in the mid 90's, HIGH humidity with popup storms predicted for this afternoon and more severe storms for the rest of the week. As soon as the dew drys I'll be saddling up and hope I can get done.

Yesterday the afternoon humidity was 60%, but it only got up to 83 degrees. The corn seems to grow about 6" overnight.

Too bad (at least here) that it will fall over because it's shallow rooted. Was very dry when planted and stayed dry during the development stage so the root system is shallow and unable to support the stalks once the cobs start to mature and gain some weight. Buzzword here is 'floppy corn'. Problem with that is, you cannot combine cobs that are at ground level.

'Cud' is the clumps of damp grass the mower leaves. Mulching blades are especially prone to 'cudding'.

I was about to make a comment like "That's what a tedder is for" when I realized that you guys are talking about mowing a LAWN, not hay.

Air-conditioned lawn mower, interesting concept, but an extravagance we won't be indulging. We don't even have AC on our farm tractors. The one tractor with a cab is "air conditioned" by taking the cab doors off to let the breeze flow through.

Careful when mowing in high heat. Most of the cool-season grasses used in lawns in this part of the country will not tolerate mowing much above 85F, it's a good way to kill your lawn. I know the warm-season grasses grown down south are different in this regard, but around here it's always advised to never mow on days with highs much above 85F, unless the lawn is getting plenty of water and doesn't show any signs of stress.

Had a neighbor completely kill 2.5 acres of lawn in 2014. He let it grow a bit tall, then whacked it all down to 3.5 inches on a 95F+ day in July, when it had also been pretty dry. Two weeks later, most of the lawns in the neighborhood had bounced back from the heat and draught, but his was dead. He ended up slit seeding the entire property that fall.

Zero turns create a pretty nice breeze, zooming around at 10 mph, and the engine heat is all behind you. I never feel that hot on it, other than backing it into the shed.

My 3033R can be a bit miserable to run on hot days, though. Engine in front, and it seems all the warm air vents right at your face and crotch. I wouldn't want to mess with a cab for the way I use it, though. Too many low trees and too much hopping on/off it.

My wife mowed yesterday, took her 3 hours in the morning while I watched from the porch and no, not naked either. At 70, that would be a sight...lol

She has one of those Cub's with a steering wheel instead of oars. It actually drives and turns just like a normal zero turn but no oars. She don't like the oars. I have the oars on mine but I've used her's in the past and I like it as well. Too bad the deck size isn't bigger.

I know the Exmarks ride a bit softer than the Deere's, not sure how Cubs compare. But the way my Deere Z757 ZTrak bounces me around at speed, I can't help but think it's gotta be hell on a woman's jiggly bits. There's an attractive young woman who mows the 8 acres next to me on a commercial zero turn, and I sometimes wonder if her breasts are going to be sitting in her lap twenty years from now. My mower is such a rough ride that I hate riding it after a meal, like swimming cramps!

For the folks like myself that are not cutting hay but using a rotary cutter to clean up around the farm: It is way too hot to mow. In the sun, sitting on a diesel tractor, over 50, overweight one is flirting with a heat stroke. We still do it.

“feels like” temp in triple digits, heat advisory…no worries.

Funny, I guess some are too pampered to do outdoor work without cool aid and AC. I understand some in this forum spend hours working their fields, and a cab w AC is warranted, but I have to laugh when AC becomes a necessity in order for them to get on their lawnmower, with a front loader, and cut grass for 30 minutes.

Started late in the garden, around 8, and called it quits half hour ago.
My T shirt was soaked.
Ahhh, the cool shower on high.
