Totally agree with you Moss...and feel fortunate that my PT(just about to celebrate his 1st birthday) came with no problems........seems like an easy QC fix for Power Trac that would potentially save them $$$$ since word of mouth is the most reliable advertisement and I'm not entirely sure if I would still have purchased the PT if there were this many posts about "issues" as there has been in the last 6 months or so.

I agree with you and Moss. With their Business model you would think that quality would be first priority. Do they do any long term testing ( or short term for that matter).

Re: It\'s a boy! (Good) but he has a screw loose. (Bad)

That is the one thing that still bugs me about Power Trac. Mine came with no problems. Yours came with no problems. I feel badly about recommending them seeing all the problems that people are having right off the truck. While people seem to be happy with the work they can do once the bugs are worked out, but the bugs shouldn't be there in the first place. Slag in the hydraulic tank, caulk in the fuel tank, vapor lock, bad cooling fans, loose bolts... AAARRRGH!

I agree that these things have far too many problems, so far after a bit more than five hours I've had air in the hydraulic system, one loose hydraulic hose on my 4-n-1 bucket, vapor lock (I think, I'll know next time I brush hog), and today an oil leak. The oil leak is under the motor and it looks like it may just be a loose oil filter (hopefully. I'll tighten it when it cools down).

I just retired and have time to dink around with so I probably would have bought it anyway but most folks aren't going to have that king od discretionary time.

Re: It\'s a boy! (Good) but he has a screw loose. (Bad)

Just to put a little perspective on it. Most people don't post unless they have an issue. This is one of the main purposes of this forum. I agree that you should not have these problems, but it is not possible to determine the failure rate from a forum. My daughter bought a computer from HP at Best Buy. She had problems under warranty and it took many (over 15) telephone calls before they would let her mail it back. They sent her to several places for repair, none of which would accept it. It was down for a total of six weeks. It looks like many companies are competing in the special olympics of tech support. Oh the service was in India and she had to use her cell phone cause that's all she had. In some ways being able to call Power Trac and speak to the expert directly is very refreshing.

On the other hand, since there are no local dealers, I would hestitate to recommend these tractors to someone who is not handy and does not have a local service guy.

Re: It\'s a boy! (Good) but he has a screw loose. (Bad)

I don't necessarily agree that folks who have problems post them. I've had some of the usual problems with leaks and vapor lock and haven't posted, why beat a dead horse? Maybe we should conduct a survey, problems, satisfaction etc. Has power-trac ever followed up with anyone looking for customer feedback, problems comments etc.

Re: It\'s a boy! (Good) but he has a screw loose. (Bad)

There may be a little sarcasm in MossRoad's response and it is probably justifiable.

I have been regularly scanning all of the sites for both good and bad and have seen some of both on orange, blue, green and all other colors.

It is a great service to someone like me who is trying to make a decision to hear both sides and I am glad that there are people who will take the time to present both sides rather than just complain.

I will admit that in my scanning of the PT site that I am seeing more problems in recent posts and I have communicated with PT asking if there is a problem with their QC and if I choose to purchase a PT would I be able to operate my machine at their site before delivery - no response yet.

I am enjoying the posts and still have not been turned off the PT but I am still also considering other options.

Thanks

Re: It\'s a boy! (Good) but he has a screw loose. (Bad)

Some good points Bob. One of the things that turned me away from the PT the first time was that there was no dealer network, and with kids in Little League, soccer, and school, I really didn't have time to be messing with fixing my own tractor all the time. I went with a Ventrac that time around.

Now that everyone is older and I have more time to "learn" how to take care of my tractor myself, I went with the PT and have not regretted it!

Yes, they will let you drive the tractor before you take it home. I did not do this because there was a 425 already there and I wanted to get a final bit of comfort in my choice of the 425 over the 1430.

I did spend a fair amount of time going over my 425 and went through the "hands on" overview with Terry.

I have found my PT to be really solid minus a couple of things that they promptly took care of.

I find that calling them works better than email and I normally get through to Scott or Terry every time.
