Norm,
It was on the tractor when I purchased it. But, it does come in handy when I'm putting in a lot of seat time. Kinda breaks the monotony.

I would think one of those things you carry in your pocket, with a headset, would work better on a tractor.

I have ear protectors with a built in radio. It is great when mowing the pasture....

Surprisingly, this one works just fine and I can still hear the "goings on" of the tractor.

My only concerns with a walkman type of radio would be a) not hearing a noise on the tractor that I should know about and b) perhaps not hearing a person come up to me.

I'll check out ebay and the link for one.

I look forward to learning more about yannie's and I think you good folks can help me ;)

Welcome Michealf. That tractor of yours sure looks great! If you want to learn more about Yannies you have come to the right place. The guys on this forum know a heck of a lot about Yanmar tractors and are very helpful!

Rox, I only use the radio on my headset when I am out in the big open field. I somtimes use just ear protector but mostly I just listen to the yanny. I will say that if u spend 6-8 hrs in the seat running a brush hog with engine rpm's at say 1800 to 2200 it is too much noise and will damage your hearing. It is amazing how loud it sound when I am out mowing and take the radio hearing protector off. WOW!

I am thinking the hearing protector radio is the best way to go. I will just have to be extra vigilant in watching what is going on around me. I don't have children, but that doesn't mean a neighbor's child won't come over. Sometimes they do to play with the animals. And of course we all realize some adults don't realize a tractor can be dangerous either. My property is small compared to some of yours on this forum so I'm never mowing more than an hour at a time, but my hearing is not so good anyway due to sinus infections so I should protect what is left I guess.

You can still hear somethings with the protectors on...even with the radio going. Like if my Mrs. comes out and hollars she can get my attention...possibly as easy as with just the noise from the tractor. I will say though that when u take them off with the tractor going full steam it seems so loud that u think something is wrong. After a bit u realize that it is just that loud normally....
