Re: IT\'S HERE, IT\'S HERE!!!!

Congrats on nthe new machine!! I have the same one, except for R-4 tires. and 30 hrs now. No problems except one- the right hand side of the loader is now very loose where it mounts to the tractor frame. the dealership is sending a tech on Monday to fix/ replace the loader. Just keep an eye on it! Good luck!

Re: IT\'S HERE, IT\'S HERE!!!!

Interesting about the loose loader. Do you know where/why it is loose exactly? The reason I ask is because when my machine was being prepped, a mechanic noticed a hairline crack in "the loader mast" as it was told to me. I believe the mast(s) are the rear upright parts of the loader that sit on the square posts bolted to the sides of the tractor. The bottom of the masts appear to be some sort of casting (easier than machining to get the right shape) that is welded to the rest of the mast. I never found out exactly where the crack on mine was (and it was replaced before I took delivery), but I wonder if it was one of those cast pieces and maybe that is what is wrong with yours.

Hi

Great machine - Of course I'm a bit biased as I love my 990 also. Just finished my 50 Hr service, no problems with the loader to date. I hope you can say the same. I'm sure JD will take care of you if you have a problem. Be sure to keep a close eye on that mount for obvious safety problems.

When you get a chance to review that service CD, take a look at the hydraulic section for the rockshaft. See if you can determine the correct function of the relief valves and shims.

Re: IT\'S HERE, IT\'S HERE!!!!

Yes, its the mast that is the problem. The person from the dealership that came to look before they send a tech, told me that is seemed to be a factory defect. He also mentioned that as the tractor loaders wear, they make a shim kit that you can buy and the shims are welded onto the large shaft that attaches to the sides of the tractor. He said that is normaly around 3000-4000 hrs, and of course that depends on how much loader work you do. So, the bottom line is... We'll see when they come to fix it.

Re: IT\'S HERE, IT\'S HERE!!!!

BGL990,

Congratulations! I'm at 65 hours on my 990 and I really like it. The first thing I noticed was the lack of vertical exhaust pipe. That will be nice.

Looks good.

Re: IT\'S HERE, IT\'S HERE!!!!

I love my Vert exhaust but if you dislike yours you can order this little exhaust outlet a Deere acessory on the 70/90 series to convert the system into a horizontal exhaust.

Re: IT\'S HERE, IT\'S HERE!!!!

Thanks everyone. I'm not 100% convinced about the under-hood exhaust yet. For one thing, it doesn't look as "tractorish" somehow. Cosmetic concerns aside, however, I notice quite a bit of exhaust smell wafting up in my face. Not that the smell of diesel exhaust coming from a shiny new tractor is that bad of a thing, but over time it might become annoying. I can't help but wonder that the vertical pipe might not have been as bad since the exit point is at or above head level and it is shooting up from there.

Oh well, I guess no tractor is perfect. I'll have to settle for 99.999% perfect.
