I don't particularly like strong winds, but sure would like to have that downpour even with lightning. Last rain we had was a month ago, and it doesn't take me long to get enough of this 100+ degree weather, sunshine, and no rain./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Fella from Southern California stopped by my place last weekend to drop something off. Wanted to know if we irrigated our pasture. Seems he wasn't used to seeing things green. And they said that Michigan was in a drought! I guess the only green lawns in S. Cal. are painted!

On local news a couple of nights ago, they had a horticulturalist on that said that our flowers, even for those without a green thumb, would be the best in years since we've had such mild temperatures. Very few days above 90 degrees and just a handful of days above 85 degrees. We recently planted two small trees and about 16 bushes and am grateful for the mild weather since we planted so late! Would like some days into the 90's though, makes the pool more enjoyable! /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

JimBinMI, our temperature is expected to exceed 100 today for the 7th day in a row. Forecasters are guessing that it'll get back down to the normal mid to high 90s though by the weekend./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Bird, on one of those 100 degree days last week, it clouded up out of no where and rained a whole 0.09 inches. Guess settling the dust is better than nothing.

Wen, I believe it was the day you got the .09" of rain that we heard thunder once, but that was it.

Had to go up to the south edge of Dallas this afternoon and noticed most gas station prices were at $1.499 for regular, and I filled up 20 miles south of Dallas where prices were $1.399. I don't guess I'll ever understand why 20 miles can make a dime difference in price.

Wen, Bird, Your not the only ones. Here in the the Atlanta area we are in the Mid 90's (better than 100's) and 14.5" below normal for rainfall. Water restrictions everywhere around us and outdoor watering bans in some counties. Can't even wash the tractor. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif On the plus side, there hasn't been any mud to get the tractor that dirty.

Yeah, I see Dallas and Atlanta both made the national news with their heat.

Maybe we could trade some weather. It's been pretty wet and slightly cooler than average. A front came through today low temps for the next 2 nights mid 40's, tomorrow some sun high mid 60's. Last summer it was really dry and had drought conditions but no were near as bad as the south gets them. They always say for nothern new england "don't like the weather wait a minute."

Hang in there hopefully it will be over soon.

The NOAA heat predictions don't show a break for the South http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/hi_outlook.html. Here in the Mid-Atlantic, it has been one of the best summers and crop-growing seasons in years. No lingering hot spells, no periods of draught. Corn growth has been phenomenal. Wish it was like this every year!

Rowski. Where you are it was obviously cooler. In the Champlain Valley [ 7-18-99] it was officially 97 degrees with oppresive humidity. My home thermometer peaked at 103. I went to the [air conditioned] Vets club with the intention off staying there until November. Unfortunately they made my wife come get me. Dave.

Since this is the "Off Topic" area, I'll go off topic! I was at a Motorcycle Swap Meet in Wauseon, Ohio last weekend helping my brother who set up as a vendor to sell some extra Harley and Indian parts that he had accumulated. Parts and bikes were supposed to be 1965 and older.

A guy from Alabama stopped by my brother's spot on a 1961 Cushman that looked like it just rolled out of the showroom. He was a character, heck of a nice guy that stood and talked for awhile, even asked us if we wanted to drive his Cushman since he gets as much enjoyment out of watching people look at it or ride it as he does owning it! /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

My question for you, do all of you guys from down there talk like that? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Remember, up here in Michigan we think that we DON'T have any accent! I really enjoyed his accent but it took him a long time to get the words out! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Sounds like on the average, temperature and rainfall are just fine. Guess it is kinda like the paper said on the death penality, on the average we execute the right number of people. Sure be nice if they were the guilty ones, though.

Yeah, Wen, that's the trouble with "mean" and "average" numbers. Depends on where you are on the scale./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

And of course, as an old cop I've always been in favor of the death penalty, but with the ridiculous judicial system we have now, I've got some doubts. I'd sure hate to see an innocent one executed, but suspect it's happened more than once, while at the same time, some who should have been executed are not.

And if you don't think things are a'changin'. For many years, no defense attorney was going to let a cop, retired cop, or a relative of either serve on a jury in a criminal case, but last year I wound up as jury foreman on a capital murder case!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Hey Bird,I heard last night on the local news Tusscalosa AL, has had 14 days of 100 deg temps or higher...OUCH!!!My wife just told me that in our area the temp was 103 today and is still 100 now as 6:15pm...Don't know if I'll complain about how fast summer fly's by at least until this December at least.../w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif...Jim,yes I'm afraid Most of us talk that way...The trick is that the further some one lives from a major city (like Bham) often the accent is "longer"(more drawl)and slower...Me,I have always been abit of a quick talker...Even had fella from NYCity ask me of I was realy from bama or just pullin his leg..Plus I have lived on both coasts and in Chicago so my accent has thinned...Though sence I've been home a while,if we were to get on a land line, I'm sure you'd say different/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif...But if any thing I bet he was pooo--liiiiite...Besides if you think he had one,try talken to some one from rural Texas or SCarolina..My mother-n-law is from (a small tex-town,i forget warr)and I can still pick out her accent in a crowded room...she's lived here over 30yrs.../w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif Now if you want some one with no accent try those west coasters!!!At least the ones I lived around in San Josey...Course we only have an accent above the MASON DIXON LINE right Bird.../w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

There are more thing than accents that give a location to a drawl so to speak. What would the cashier say to you at the store--sir do you want your pop in a sack? Around here a cashier would say do you want your soda in a bag. When we moved to Bay City when I was a kid I actually laughed at the cashier thinking she was joking. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
The bad thing is I had no idea what pop was!!!
Do they still make Vernerrs or something like that sort of like ginger ale only alot nastier tasting. Dad used to love that stuff. Mainly because we wouldn't drink it on him.
