It\'s ordered......finally!

Didn't take me a year but seems like an eternity since I first started looking...anyhow, I ordered a 422 and some various tools of destruction/construction....just want to thank everyone here that has put in their 2 cents worth to all my "newbie" questions. Really would have liked the 425 but just couldn't handle the extra $$ at this time & I think the 422 will do me just fine. I did order the arm rests but now I'm wondering if they were a luxury not needed....does anybody have them and think they are worth the extra $100? Hope to have my machine out and about by next week-end!! YIPPEEEEE! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: It\'s ordered......finally!

Congratulations, now for the wait until it arrives. Mossroad will chime in and give you an opinion on the arm rests as he has them.

Congratulations on making the pt plunge. What attachments did you get?

Re: It\'s ordered......finally!

Congratulations Farmall. You have asked some great questions. Thanks. Sometimes it is better to just wait and read every one else's questions. A lot of you guys come up with things I would never have thought to ask. Keep us posted on how it works out.

Re: It\'s ordered......finally!

Congratulations!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The arms rests.... hmmm. Are they worth a hundred bucks? Probably not. When they are up and you get the machine in a tight turn and oscillating, they hit the engine cover and come down. Then when they are down, and you do a tight turn and oscillating, they grate on the engine cover's expanded steel mesh and tear the fabric back by your elbow. So, that part is a downer. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

However, when you are out mowing a large area and you have one arm on the rest, one hand on the spinner knob(I predict a spinnner knob in your future) and your right foot on the treadle, the grass is smelling sweet, and the sun is out, it don't get much better than that and you won't even think about the little splurge for your comfort. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Also, I find the arm rests really useful when hauling large amounts of material in the large bucket and covering long stretches of ground. I like to travel backwards as I can go full speed and by traveling backwards with the bucket full, it acts as a wheely bar. The arm rests really help in that situation.

One more thing. When you drive down to the neighbors to shoot the bologna it looks really cool to pull up next to them on their lawn tractor and lean on the arm rest and peak out from under the canopy. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: It\'s ordered......finally!

David - I think they are worth it just for the chat with the neighbors.

Acutally they also come in handy if you mow across steep slopes like I do - I lean uphill somewhat and find that putting the uphill one up and the downhill one down works good - I brace myself by grabbing hold of the downhill one

Re: It\'s ordered......finally!

Hi & welcome. I think the arm rest are too much money. You can buy a whole new seat with arm rest at TSC. You can also buy armrests at www.j-thomas.com for $42.00. They use the same seat as Toro / Exmark seats. Or buy buy the whole thing for 150.00. The Power Trac seat is pretty cheap. The seat pad is way too thin & cheap. Buy the whole new one & you riding a pillow. Just my 2 cents. BP

Re: It\'s ordered......finally!

I ordered the 48" mower...debated on the 60" but the smaller will fit better in the truck(if and whne I do that) and it will also fit easier into the empty stall on the barn. The doorway is exactly 60"...and I figure I'll get a more uniform grass cut on the slopes with a slightly smaller deck. Also picked up the 5 cubic bucket with extra teeth. I'll mainly be using it to load a small spreader but I also see some digging in the near future as we plan an addition to the house and a rose/flower bed will need to be transplanted. I thought the arm rests would be nice on those extended grass cutting days...do they come off easy for those days when major work is lined up...seems they might be in the way on those tight/quick turns? I've only made the deposit to hold the price and will take care of the rest Tuesday...so I can still make changes. Really looking forward to it's arrival, like Xmas in June! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: It\'s ordered......finally!

Yep...I will be picking up a spinner before it arrives(my first custom mod. LOL!)...the PT I did try out last month had a spinner and after turning a few times with just the wheel I found myself using the spinner without even thinking about it. Would have one on the Farmall too but no power steering and the radius is just a little wider...he he!........but I'll be keeping both the PT and the Farmall in the garage(and the cars in the driveway)....gotta have your priorities! ...besides the Farmall has always been out of the weather...hardly and inch of rust on her and plan to keep them both way!
