The manual says either 90w gear oil or hydraulic transmission fluid for the front axle. And that they ship it from the factory with the hydraulic fluid in there. One better than the other in this application?
Does Tractor Supply sell any hydraulic fluid that meets the spec that Kioti calls for on a DK45SE HST?

I can find Shell Universal Tractor Fluid at the local Walmart but cannot find Shell Donax TD anywhere which is what the Kioti manual recomends. When you read the product sheets for these two items the wording is the same. Anyone know if they interchange?

It is my understanding that the hydraulic fluid in the front end is only put there for the break in period, that it shoule be replaced with 90W at the 50 hour service. However, there are guys who have always just used hydraulic fluid. It's a bit confounding because they are drastically different viscosities.

I used gear oil in front,it just seemed the right thing to do is the reason, after reading some.I used napa heavy duty tractor fluid, make sure you get the one thats for trans and hydro, wet brakes, think its 20 weight,

Warhammer-- the Massey-Ferguson GC series tractors use hydraulic fluid in both the tranny and the front axle; however, there was a thread a while back that concerned a front axle failure (Kubota?) which discussed switching to 90w gear oil and whether that would be better in the long run.... It was enough to make me seriously consider it....

That was the 90 in front and the napa heavy duty in trans.[wasn't very clear there was I]

As I've posted before, I use Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil(75W-90).being synthetic, it has a much lower pour point(read gets to the wearing parts quicker)and has a robust extreme pressure formular.I use my loader a lot, and want all the protection I can get for the front gear

Hi All,
While the tractor is under warranty you should use the oil called for in your manual or a matching oil from another distributor. You don't want any questions raised if there is a failure.
The biggest problem we see when servicing the tractors is the amount of wear particles that flush out with the oil. It is almost always with a customer who puts the tractor in 4WD and leaves it there for all applications.(Believe me I ask every customer their practices with the 4WD) THIS IS THE BIGGEST SINGLE STRESS ON YOUR FRONT DIFF AND FINAL DRIVES. 4WD must only be used when 1 or 2 of your tires can break free when stressed. Hard dirt surfaces and pavement will not allow a tire to free up when turning. Use your front drive when you need it and then go back to rear wheel drive, your front end will thank you for it by lasting much longer.
You are not driving at such speeds to really heat up the front axle fluid like in a truck or car so the protection against heat is not as important as the protection against wear pressure.
That's the way I look at it after servicing so many tractors. I hope it helps.

Thanks for the advice Dave, but the manual says hydraulic or gear oil in the front axle, quite a spread.

So what do you use when servicing a tractor?

It would be nice if the manual said under what conditions to use either of the two oils mentioned. My dealer says hydraulic due to the cold climate, so that's what is in mine because it is still under warranty.

My book called for draining the front axle at 50 hours and replacing with 90 wt.

80-90 works as does universal tractor hydraulic fluid for the front axle. Super Tech Heavy Duty Tractor Hydraulic and Transmission Fluid from Walmart has worked well for me.

I agree with kioti Dave. Engaging 4 WD on Hardpack does more damage and is not needed anyway. I use 4 WD only when I have to.

By the way I have an extra ck-20 service shop repair manual for anybody looking for one. if interested send me a p.m.
