I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

At least, I think I do.

I've been using the loader for the first time on this tractor and it has a problem that is kind of frustrating. When I have a load and try to use the quick dump, there is a 2 or 3 second delay in anyting happening so if I'm trying to spread the load over a distance while moving, I miss the spot. What could be causing this? About the only thing I can think of is the control unit isn't working right. Fluid level is where it should be. Otherwise the loader seems to be working okay. When the bucket is empty, the quick dump works without a delay.

Second problem is when I first start the tractor with a cold engine it's spewing out a lot of white smoke and running rough with the white smoke stopping and starting intermittently for about 30 seconds until the engine smooths out. After the tractor warms up a little it runs okay. I'm thinking this is a glow plug or glow plug control issue. Do you guys agree with that?

I had a TC29D before this tractor and it didn't have these two problems. This new tractor has 20 hours on it now.

I know I can take it to the dealer for warranty work, but I want to know what you guys think the problems might be.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
Is the engine at idle or does it have some rpm, when you fast dump? How cold are we talking?

Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

Jim, I thought all the New Hollands had the delay on the fast dump circuit. I'm surprised you did'nt notice it on your TC29D. My TC30 has the delay and I've read a lot of posts from others who have it as well. I don't remember why it does it, but it's a design problem from NH, not a specific defect for your machine. (I've even heard of some that teeter back and forth a bit before they go into fast dump mode)

All I can say about your engine is that mine acts the same way when it's 30 degrees or cooler outside. Mine smooths out within 30 seconds after startup.

Maybe instead of fast dump NH should call it "retarded dump" /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Jerry,
Does it do it at 1200 or above RPM?

Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

JerryG, I run between 1500 and 2000 rpm so that's the range that I notice it in.

Thanks Jerry,
There must be a problem in the valves.

Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

The engine and hydraulic fluid are completely warmed up and it's running at 2000 rpm.

The white smoke at startup occurs at any ambient temperature, but doesn't do it after the engine is warm. The TC29D smoked at startup, but not nearly as much as this tractor. I notice that NH changed the glow plug operation circuit between the to models/years. I used to have to hold the key in glow plug position until the lamp went out, but now the glow plugs operate as soon as I turn the key to "on" position.

I see I started this thread in the wrong forum. I should have been in the HN owning/operating forum. I'm going to try to get it switched or start it again down there.

Ugh! I thought mine was defective. I certainly hope it is! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

What loader do you have?

I have an LA16 loader, and it also has this delay problem. It makes the precision dumping and spreading that I'm used to virtually impossible. Although I now have a larger tractor and larger bucket, production is down from my TC29 and Woods 1009 loader. I am very dissatisfied, and my dealer will be hearing from me soon. If there's no fix, it's going bye-bye.

The engine thing sounds like water. Although oil could possibly make white smoke, I kind of doubt it. I would get it checked right away.

Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

My Tc-30 does the same thing on startup now that nighttime tempertures are in the 30's. 5 or 6 seconds of white smoke and running rough then smooths out and runs great . I bought it new in May and have just over 100 hours. I thought about taking it in, but thought this might be normal, not sure is it?
