The lower the out side temperature the more it will have the white smoke. From my experience, when it is cold, it may smoke white for a few puffs.
On the loader problem. When you go to dump are you going through the the slow dump position slowly or are you immediately going to fast dump. From my experience, if you go immediately to fast dump there is a better chance that of it not having hesitation.

Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

Jim,

Keep in mind on your glow plugs that even though the light has gone off the plug is still operating. When it gets colder out even after the light goes off I keep the key in the same position for another ten seconds. My 29 will not start below 40 degrees if I start right after the plug light goes out. I will get the smoke and it will start and then quit even. I have to run the plugs a good ten seconds after the light goes out and I don't have any problems then.

I agree with Jerry.
Some white smoke during a cold startup is completely normal.

Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

When mine is smoking, it is smoking about 90% of the time with 10% of the time clear exhaust bursts.

thcri, does your ignition switch operate the same as mine? The glow plugs come on as soon as you turn the key to it's first position? That is, you don't have to hold the key. Then a timer cuts the lamp off I guess from what you are saying and the glow plugs continue to operate.

On the dump I would have to say that I'm going from slow dump for a few seconds and then to the fast dump. I have a lot more loader work to do in the next week so I'm going to pay more attention to it's operational quirks.

In answer to the question in a post above, I've got the 7308 loader.

Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

My switch's first position is just on, no glow plug, then as I move it to the right for starting the glow plug will come on mid way. I have to hold the key in this position to keep the glow plug on. I typically will wait for a good ten seconds even though the light goes off in this position then I continue on to start. My manual explain this in more detail on page 2-5 "Preheating the System" Look at the note in that area.

( ...there is a 2 or 3 second delay in anyting happening )

Jim, I don't know if you mean this to be an "actual" or "seems like" delay, but 2 or 3 seconds is a long, long time. When you go to the quick dump position, your loader control valve simply connects the retract side of your loader cylinders to the extend side. The weight in the bucket causes the liquid to flow. If I understand the system, it's like suddenly having the internal seal in the cylinder fail. Of course, your fluid has to pass through your hoses to the control valve and back to the opposite side of the hydraulic cylinder. If there is a restriction in the hose, quick connect, or the control valve, this could be the cause of your delay. I just cannot figure where the 2 or 3 second delay might be coming from. Were you dumping from a high, fully curled position so the load in the bucket was more or less centered over the bucket pivots? This is the only time I'd see a problem with the regenerative system working quickly.

Yesterday, I paid close attention to the dump time on my 16LA loader bucket while I was transferring some fill dirt to my pond dams. When I went from the slow to the fast dump position, there was only the slightest delay before the bucket dumped. When I went directly to the fast dump position, the dump was almost instantaneous. I'm not sure if the hydraulic lines and control valve are physically larger on my tractor than they are on yours, but based on your times, I'd have to say my loader has no delay at all. When it dumps, it doesn't just instantaneously fall, but it goes to full dump position very quickly. I have over 500 hours on my tractor and my loader has had a lot of use, so all the pins are broken in and the cylinders may not be as tight as they were when new. Even so, if you really mean 2 or 3 seconds, I think there is a restriction somewhere in your regenerative circuit. I'd talk to my dealer and ask him to demonstrate how it is supposed to work.

Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

I find that I have to wait for the glow plugs to heat until the light goes out if it's at all cool outside. Otherwise I get a lot of white smoke (unburned fuel) upon startup.

Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

I'm talking about an actual 2 second delay. That's why it is so frustrating when I'm trying to spread a load. A 3 second delay is stretching it.

As far as starting the engine cold, I let the lamp go out before I start the engine. The white smoke (unburned fuel) is excessive, IMO, on this tractor. That's why I'm questioning the glow plugs/glow plug control. I'm thinking about putting a meter on the glow plug circuit to see exactly what is happening when I first turn the key on and then start the engine.

Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

I'm posting this with out much actual time on Boomers, but with a lot of time on other New Hollands. My 2120 uses a 7309 loader and on the bucket cylinder the bucket curls (dumps) under power. If I position the bucket on the ground, I can lift the front of the tractor off the ground by simply dumping the bucket. The speed at which it dumps is very dependent on the engine rpms. On the 2120, you need to specifically turn on the glow plugs by turning the key in the oposite direction before starting. I rarely even need to use glow plusgs to start unless it is under 32 out. Usually I get some black smoke until the engine warms up. I think the white smoke may be an indication of water in the diesel. Have you tried a diesel conditioner?

Just my thoughts

Andy

Re: I\'ve got a couple of problems on a new TC33D

Jim,

Have you tried holding the key in the same position for an additional ten seconds after the glow plug light goes out. Accroding to my manual you still are engaging the glow plugs even though the light has gone out. My tractor won't start unless I do that.
